What makes the monkey dance? (x6)
Birds and bees, chimpanzees
zoom 'round my head, swingin' from trees
She's a deep dish pie, precious flower
Wrapped like candy, print and pallid
All the creepers creep and the widows weep
In the dead of the night I'm counting sheep
All night long I toss and turn
I wonder what it's gonna take to learn
What makes the monkey dance? (x6)
Got brand new drugs for the same old blues
Satellites peekin' into your room
A machine to tell me if you're lying
Got sheep for corn and eggs for fryin'
I can meet for lunch with the man on the moon
Do almost anything I want to do
Makes no difference where you go
Everybody got a theory but nobody knows
What makes the monkey dance? (x14)
Taking pills on my knees for clues to life's mysteries
Daytime soaps, late night cable
'Round the corner, under the table
I'm looking for love that can remain
Lookin' for love that knows no shame
Big or round, short or tall
I've got to get it, I'm nothing at all
What makes the monkey dance (x20)
Birds and bees, chimpanzees
zoom 'round my head, swingin' from trees
She's a deep dish pie, precious flower
Wrapped like candy, print and pallid

Song title is right up there with What Did The Fox Say?
Tonight this song followed Gorillaz. I like Bill’s sense of humor!
According to Nil Lara, it's Money
Nil Lara - Money Makes the Monkey Dance (live)

Sounds like Alabama 3 but not quite as good
One of the all time great existential questions.
An oldie but a goodie from CP. He (solo sometimes) and his band are great live.
Dance, monkey, dance!!
My 3 yr old daughter said
"music makes the monkey dance Dad"
"music makes the monkey dance Dad"
Hmm...how to describe this? Is "underwhelming" a word?
Take the monkey to the RSPCA, and bonk the singer on the head to make him stop. A better life for all involved....especially said monkey...
Find out what makes him dance, and then stop singing about it.
forferdelig..
Apparently, the monkey has a spot that gets her hot.

Ah, this song makes the monkey want to run away and hide!

the soprano song is from a group named Alabama 3.
no relation to Chuck Prophet.

Nice transition from the Stones to Elvis to Chuck Prophet.
I thought it was the ghost of Frank Zappa when I first heard his voice.

Hahaha. No. Do you ask because I used the adjective "wicked" like that? My old college roommate was from New Hampshire and I picked that up from him. :)
Well, I surely don't know.
But I do know what burns my ass: a flame about waist high.
Sounds a bit like Fun Lovin Criminals
Tequila. Lots of tequila.
Sounds like the Sopranos.
I second the motion of seeing Chuck live. He was in Portland a couple of years ago--great show. His "No Other Love" CD is excellent. "Summertime Thing" has to be one of the great summer songs. Rock on...
Crocky make da monkey dance...right before lunch.
DjThirteenP wrote: If you ever get a chance to see Chuck Prophet live, especially if he's solo, go see him. The guy is a phenomenon. His music really gets into his body and causes him to become spastic in highly entertaining ways. On top of that, he's a wicked good guitar player and has a great sense of irony in his song writing.
Are you originally from New England?
R epetitive, addictive a bit like umm ... a bowl full of salted peanuts on a bar.
... probably the bananas...?
cool tune
What makes the monkey dance? Well...

I don't even have a theory.

haha! excellent!
Though I am personally amused by monkeys...have to say WTF on this song!
Steve Ballmer makes the monkey dance!

(this is one of the reasons I always look at microsoft products with suspicion)
2 real points, plus 3 silly points, equals a 5.
You go Mr. Monkey.

What? No SHOCK THE MONKEY??
PG's monkey song is the best ever.....
Why do so many people write about monkeys anyway?
"Comin down, comin down like a monkey, but it's allright"
"I am the proudest monkey,"
"Hey Hey we're the Monkeys,"
"what makes the monkey dance"
"shock the monkey"
Can you think of any more????!!!!??!!!??!!!
Answer: a really hot floor.
bit like Fun Lovin' Criminals or Stereo MCs too...

What? No SHOCK THE MONKEY??
A boring song that can't even claim artistic value for redemption due to inane lyrics.
This could be a great song if it had some lyrics.
Nice beats -- from a distance I thought I was hearing 'When The Levee Breaks'.
Monkey, monkey, monkey! Love it!

Yeee haaa! \:D/
Sounds a lot like Alabama 12 and the theme song to The Sopranos.
Here's a thought: Let's get Tony Soprano to find out what makes the monkey dance. Question answered, then we're done with this silly song.

Zappa, Zuzu, Zappa! (Say that ten times fast!)
I'm thinking the vocals sound like a cross between Zappa and Gil Scott Heron.

Ditto.
Moreover, if we kill the monkey, and the question's moot, will this song end?
We can get another monkey in a year maybe, when I might be able to tolerate this again.
30,000 voltes, of course.

What makes the monkey dance? Who cares.
Sounds like good credit-rolling music for the Sopranos.
Possible answer: Peter Tork feeling the beat.
Frank Zappa makes this monkey dance.
I sure can\'t wait to eat that monkey. :)

The vocal style first reminded me of \"The Torture Never Stops\" on Frank Zappa\'s Zoot Allures album. Bet THAT never makes it on RP...

Thanks for noting the lead singer of A3. You never know if a guy has gone off and done something solo. Rob and Chuck do sound similar. This song is growing on me. I increased my score. Sounds good in the RP mix.
Hey Chuck, go to the zoo and check out the monkey cage. I guarantee you\'ll see what makes the monkey dance.
What Makes the Sopranos Dance? :(

Yeah. It's not. "Woke Up This Morning" is by a group known as A3.
My guess? Anaheim winning the World Series. Made the stupid monkey dance way to much, in this Giants fan\'s opinion, but it does at least give Chuck here a chance to solve his bluesy mystery.
Cool cut, btw, and he puts on a really good show; you can still catch him at fairly small places like the Starry Plough in Berkeley, nearly every couple of weeks.

I loved Storm Across the Sea, the CP song that was getting a lot of well-deserved air time here. I\'m happy to hear some of his other work; keep it up, --d
