Camarado
See that cloud across the sun
Ain't too many places left to run
There was a time when we'd go anywhere the wind would blow
Camarado
Camarado
They are fencing off the range
I hate to hear the whistle of the train
Next thing you know they'll want your pistol and your tobacco
Camarado
Got a piece of forty-four on fire in my chest
Out here on the mesa I will rest
If you could hand me down that whiskey from my saddle roll
Camarado
Now the light is dyin' in the sky
That ain't gonna bother you or I
Seen enough a dying to know almost all there is to know
Camarado
Now you had best light out and ride
There's pretty women on the other side
See ya in Sabinas you'll be free as air in Mexico
Camarado
See that cloud across the sun
Ain't too many places left to run
There was a time when we'd go anywhere the wind would blow
Camarado

What a great voice and wonderful musician!
Not the 10 of most any random Mark Knopfler effort while seemingly just strolling around his garden breathing some air. But will make for an excellent Song Du Jour nonetheless.
Thought he was saying Colorado
This guy is classy. Either with DS or solo, he just puts out great art. And he recognizes those that preceded him.

Being a very well-read and literate person, Mark is almost certainly to be referring to several Walt Whitman's poems where he (Whitman) uses the term "Camerado" to refer to a close friend. In these instances, Whitman is always directly addressing Camerado; just as Knopfler does in the song. For example:
From Song of the Open Road BY WALT WHITMAN

Camerado, I give you my hand!
I give you my love more precious than money,
I give you myself before preaching or law;
Will you give me yourself? will you come travel with me?
Shall we stick by each other as long as we live?
..love this guy's music - hope he plays this in Berlin 2105 as I'm sure going to be there Anybody else got MK plans for 2015?
San Antonio isn't on the Texas-Mexico border!
Camarado - probably should be camarada (comrade), probably corrupt spanglish in border areas.
Sabinas - a town in north-east Mexico across the border from San Antonio, Texas, frequent haven of US outlaws.

Doesn't he know that it's Colorado?
He's got the groove right, just needs work on his spelling and geography.

Sitting in Salt Lake City....what a great song for what has been a challenging day....and I'm a travel weary Canadian!
Good....

Anyone hear touches of Highwayman mixed with Knopfler stealing from his own "Sailing to Philadelphia"?

Excellent! Great to hear this one in the mix... There are more "B-side" songs by Mark that didn't make one of his albums, for instance "The Long Highway", i believe that one was released on the "What It Is" single just like this tune "Camerado".
Anyway, love this!

He shoots... HE SCORES!! Got me a copy of this tune today on e bay for six bucks. Been trying to get a copy for three years. It's available on Amazon for 150 friggin clams! Jeez! I am such a loser! But I got me my Camerado!

Wait. . .what CD is this on? I have not ever heard it and I have the CD shown.
Love it - Mark paints big expressive brush stokes with a Strat. I'm always taken somewhere in my mind's eye with his songs.

This is great! I have never heard it before. You'd think Mark could squeeze this onto one of his albums.

Camerado? Is that when Camaros have friends?
This is the second cd with aircraft cover art in 22 plays. Must be a record of sorts. (That's not counting the burning zeppelin from about 3 songs ago.)
Sr. Knopflerrrrr, camarada: what in the world made you think you spoke Spanish?
was this off that 1977 Dire Straits album?
This is a most excellent song - my husband likes to play it before he goes out motorcycling....

Sure would like to hear some of his new music with Emmy Lou.

Ah! That's it! I knew it wasn't on Sailing to Philadelphia! Thanks for the tip!
Hmmmm. I see I've already given this a "7", but Idon't remember having heard it before...
i like this radioparadise
i like it a lot!

Every time I hear this song I think of this post. How right you are. This is just another in the fantastic catalogue Knopfler has put together. Unbelieveable talent.
yay for mark!

Yup - Eric Clapton, Widespread Panic, and now Mark Knopfler
radiojunkie is right - it is NOT on Sailing to Philadelphia - least not what I have and what Amazon is sellling! Where can one get this?!? Ripcast?!?
Edit: OIC - Amazon is selling the CD single titled "What It Is" used only... :-s
I can't get over how imperceptably good this guy is.
I like this song (and most other Knopfler stuff), but can't help but think of these lyrics instead:
Can you name the truck with four wheel drive,
smells like a steak and seats thirty-five..
Canyonero! Canyonero!
Well, it goes real slow with the hammer down,
It's the country-fried truck endorsed by a clown!
Canyonero! (Yah!) Canyonero!
Hey Hey
The Federal Highway comission has ruled the
Canyonero unsafe for highway or city driving.
Canyonero!
12 yards long, 2 lanes wide,
65 tons of American Pride!
Canyonero! Canyonero!
Top of the line in utility sports,
Unexplained fires are a matter for the courts!
Canyonero! Canyonero! (Yah!)
She blinds everybody with her super high beams,
She's a squirrel crushing, deer smacking, driving machine!
Canyonero!-oh woah, Canyonero! (Yah!)
Drive Canyonero!
Woah Canyonero!
Woah!
Thank you for playing this! Never heard it before, and I have Sailing to Philadelphia -- the fact that it's from an out-of-print import CD single is NOT FAIR!
I just hope Chevy doesn't bring out a "Camerado" truck and use this song...
" Travelin' light...."
Next song must be The Partisan.
love his voice
I really like his style, so smooth and creamy. I have this CD but I don't remember this song being on it.
I'm a fan, but geez: ...
Knopfler does it again! This guy is a national treasure in his own right!

mean, but nice one
There's something about this track that reminds me more of Golden Heart than Sailing to Philadelphia for some reason. I like it a lot, probably because it has more pace than other MK selections here at RP.

really like his voice...starting to recognize it first few beats...but he sorta sounds like some one else...same bourbon and smoke voice, but i feel more with his...will figure it out....gotta get me some!!!
I see your 8 and raise you 1. Great tune from a never-miss.
Can this tune somehow get placed into hourly rotation? Top notch!
