Sell the kids for food, weather changes moods
Spring is here again, reproductive glands

He's the one who likes all our pretty songs
And he likes to sing along, and he likes to shoot his gun
But he knows not what it means, knows not what it means
And I say, he's the one who likes all our pretty songs
And he likes to sing along, and he likes to shoot his gun
But he knows not what it mean, knows not what it means
And I say, yeah

Mmm

We can have some more, nature is a whore
Bruises on the fruit, tender age in bloom

He's the one who likes all our pretty songs
And he likes to sing along, and he likes to shoot his gun
But he knows not what it means, knows not what it means
And I say, he's the one who likes all our pretty songs

I was a Pixies fan for a couple years before Nirvana burst onto the scene and I can appreciate the musical influence the former imparted upon the latter. And while I generally cringe at the very mention of Nirvana, we can at least thank them for steering hard-edge music away from the fag-metal hair bands (Poison, Motley Crue, et al.) that had an iron grip on the MTV and radio rotation at the time. It's exactly the tortured, self-abosrbed "lonely genius" that GenX 2.0 (of which I am a member) was supposed to identify with that turns me off. When Nirvana came out and so many kids were like, "I can totally identify!" all I could do is look around at my neatly manicured upper-middle-class white suburb and think to myself, "what the hell are you people whining about? We've got it pretty good, folks..." To me Nirvana will always represent the pointless, baseless disaffection of a generation of narcissistic brats that had virtually nothing to be disaffected about.

I see you're not getting a lot of love for your comment there, drover. I'm in the exact demographic you are describing & after all the passing years, all that's said & done, I tend to agree with you.

Pah! This sounds nothing like a reedy whiny version of The Beatles!

I'll never forget making the full-of-Fall-colors drive from Back Bay, Boston to Walden Pond in early November back in '91 and this came over the radio of the rental, and hell, yes, I had it CRANKED! Truly a major force in Music that ended too soon...but Kurt's spirit shall live forever as long as we rock his songs and remember his eternal spark with a bit of awe amidst the darkness of the loss!
RP Rock Mix love it. Found my self going back time an time agina. :-)

Well stated! I Agree!

I dunno.... maybe ask James Brown, Robert Plant, Frank Black, Roger Daltry.... you know you're listening to the Rock channel, right?

You do know not everyone grew up in an upper-middle-class suburb, right? Sounds like you're the narcissist, thinking your experience is universal and invalidating everyone else because they aren't like you...

Every day that I bring my kids into school I pass by the studio where this was produced. It is older two story brick building that is is rather plain in all regards. As new M.U.D. after new M.U.D. rises closer and closer to that humble corner I wonder when this little chunk of Gen-X and music history will fall. Sad day that will be.

One of my favorite Nirvana songs. I\'ve never really bothered with attempting to put any meaning behind any of Cobain\'s lyrics... (Maybe I am one to whom Cobain was adressing this song? ) I just love the whole distorted pop sound, with the angry harmonies, and especially that oh so dischordant (but amazingly good sounding) guitar solo. Q - funny video too
dot likes rock where brains are still drying. DF. dot
There are lots of great Nirvana songs. This one isn\'t one of them.

I like all their pretty songs.
What else can be said about Nirvana that hasn\'t been said already? They were truly something unique. Tone down all that distortion and (sometimes) angry vocals, and you\'ve got a delicious pop number. No wonder so many people like them.
Re tlem\'s comment that Nirvana was unique. Might explain why I thought no other so-called grunge band ever sounded as good as Nirvana. There\'s no substitute for writing good songs.
Annoying, at least to my ears tonight. I'll give it a more objective listen next time. Well it's July and this song is still annoying.
