What is it about this song that it has to be played so often!? There are so many other Led Zepplin songs that deserve this much airplay. This is a sort of wierd classic rock thing going on here — we hear the same Led Zep song over and over. Only on RP, we hear this song all the time instead of Black Dog or Stairway to Heaven. Strange.

It is possible to forget how much Led Zeppelin rocked. They're mostly remembered for Stairway to Heaven, etc. but they were a rockin' R&B / roots band. If this music were available live today I'd go and see it whenever possible.

If memory serves, this was their first release that showed Led Zep was more than just a metal-blues band. Makes we want to go back and listen to Led Zep III, Houses of the Holy and Physical Graf.

I am a big Led Zep fan, but this one was never one of my faves. However, I never knew it was written about Robert's dog — so now I may just like this song a little bit more....

My maternal grandmother insisted that I call her by her name "Merle" (and yes, she had blue eyes). I continue to think of her with joy every time I hear this song. Luckily it was not one of the Zep 'make out' songs for us youngsters in the 70s!

40 years on, and I'm pretty certain we've not yet heard anybody that can come close to this.
Zeppelin III is the perfect example what a wonderful, tactile experience vinyl gives you, versus CDs or digital downloads - what with the spinning wheel cover jacket and cryptic quotes written into the dead wax.
