I'm ready... ready as anybody can be
I'm ready... ready as anybody can be
Now I'm ready for you
I hope you're ready for me
I got an axe handle pistol on a graveyard frame
That shoot tombstone bullets... wearin' balls and chain
I'm drinkin' TNT... I'm smokin' dynamite
I hope some screwball start a fight
'Cause I'm ready... ready as anybody can be
I'm ready for you... I hope you're ready for me

All you pretty little chicks with your pretty little hair
I know you feels like I ain't nowhere
But stop what your doin' baby come overhere
I'll prove to you baby... that I ain't no square
Because I'm ready... ready as anybody can be
Now I'm ready for you... I hope you're ready for me

I been drinkin' gin like never before
I feel so good... I want you to know
One more drink... I wish you would
I takes a whole lotta lovin' to make me feel good
'Cause I'm ready... ready as anybody can be
Now I'm ready for you... I hope you're ready for me

saw 2 legends at the Colonial shortly after moving to Toronto ... first John  Lee Hooker then a couple of years later, Muddy Waters...both more than memorable
Just wanted to acknowledge the RP team again for all the work on refreshing and dusting off many old tracks over the past several months. It is palpable and appreciated. Cheers to William et al..!

1980 Carbondale, IL, I just finished my BS degree at SIU & Muddy played at Shryock Auditorium. We had 1st row center seats. After his amazing performance my girlfriends & I waited outside the back entrance. We got to meet Muddy & shake his hand. It was grandiose.

Are you sure?

SIU-C actually gave out degrees back then?

It was the biggest  party school in the Midwest.  All them Chicago kids went to  Southern IL.   Not far from Cairo, IL on the confluence of the Mississippi and Ohio rivers.

There's  some strange mojo voo doo going on down there.

Sounds to me like Illustr8r has some repressed homo-erotic conflicts that need to be resolved.

This song was written in 1954. Times change and so does our culture, hopefully for the better.
Wow that harmonica melted my phone
Probably a safe bet that's  Little Walter on harp.

Then you definitely deserved it. Chicago blues men do not fuck around, it was a tough, tough scene back then, and some clown from Boulder was definitely going to get his comeuppance.

I just posted the exact same comment (but made a 9, cause, you know....)
How is this not at least a 9?

I'm not in the mood for the blues.

I realize your "Coachellian" 110 degrees is a helluva lot more livable than triple-digit temps. here in the midwest, but god...110 DEGREES!
I keep hearing on the news how brutal it's been in the Southwest this summer, but I've never experienced anything north of 106 (and that was in Napa Valley) in '98.

 Stay cool if you can...

Getting tired of Muddy Waters. There's a lot of great Chicago Blues musicians who deserve more airplay.

Isn't this one of those albums he did late in his career, with Johnny Winter producing/performing?

Truly godlike!
Hell yes!  Southern Music Group!

Muddy Waters - I'm Ready
Stevie Ray Vaughan - The Sky Is Crying
Kings Of Leon - Sex On Fire
oooh that gorgeous voice, i'm ready too!
reminds me of:
when muddy grew up he had to sit in the back of the bus, the front was for the whites.
And now you guys chose obama, wow!!!!

i should like more 'black' music on RP....

Even if he was saying 'queer' (which he isn't), the word had a completely different meaning when this was recorded.
Humble Pie did a crunching version of this.
I heard "square". *shrug* I always liked Hooker over Muddy, but Muddy is still bad-assed.

Most Definitely Square. Those of you that think other wise need to get out to your local blues clubs and open your ears. It'll be an eye/ear opener for sure, you need it! Kate ;-)

You'd better listen a bit closer because he clearly says "square." His pronunciation leaves the "s" at the beginning of "square" almost silent.

Gritty is good!! After all, these early blues guys were not all polished up for MTV.
the man is singing "i'm no square" (or queer. or whatever, as long as it rhymes with "overhere"). i fail to see the bashing. it seems like useful info when singing to a woman. oh, and it's just an old song...

I agree. I have a version on a compilation of Willie Dixon compositions, and they had Muddy singing this song on it, and it seemed a lot more raw, and a lot more urgent. I liked that version better. But, we are splitting hairs here. This is a great song by a great artist.

I think u b right kemo sabe! Many of these old blooze tunes were recorded in very primitive studios. Now that blues is gaining popularity, they're being cleaned up and re-recorded.

Nicely balances out one of my favorite misheard lyrics - Jimi Hendrix "scuz me while I kiss that guy".
Music does not get any better than this. Honey for the ears.
Oh yeah! I miss blues fest in chicago....
Illustr8r... you are a bit oversensitive aren't you? Good grief... take your issues someplace else.
He says he "ain't no square." Is someone is being heterophobic here?
