We've been through some things together
With trunks of memories still to come
We found things to do in stormy weather
Long may you run.

Long may you run.
Long may you run.
Although these changes have come
With your chrome heart shining in the sun
Long may you run.

Well, it was back in Blind River in 1962
When I last saw you alive
But we missed that shift on the long decline
Long may you run.

Long may you run.
Long may you run.
Although these changes have come
With your chrome heart shining in the sun
Long may you run.

Maybe The Beach Boys have got you now
With those waves singing "Caroline No"
Rollin' down that empty ocean road
Gettin' to the surf on time.

Long may you run.
Long may you run.
Although these changes have come
With your chrome heart shining in the sun
Long may you run.

I saw it.  NY was quite the character and artist.  His laugh, smile and e-y-e- https://www.npr.org/2022/12/09...
Just reading his 2011 autobiography Hippie Dream.
Interesting life and character. Wish him the title if this song.
I like Pocahontas

The most recent stats -- 15,000,000 direct and related COVID fatalities globally -- does not suggest HOAX.  That's a worldwide equivalent of over 1.75 New York Citys.  Over 40% of the population of Canada.
If you or others have/had a superior, effective and verified means to deter such a potentially lethal ailment other than a vax, please share, provided it's not UV bleach, ivermectin, Jared Kushner masks, or evangelical prayer. Perhaps the true hoax is in wheedling millions of people to believe it's a hoax.  Like the Big Lie. Like the pedophile ring in the basement of the Philadelphia pizzeria.   Like the WMDs.
One measure is the daily quotient of hourly ambulance sirens that roared through the Brooklyn intersection at the front door of my apartment building. I'm 4 blocks from a Level 1 hospital trauma center, and people were emergencies or dying by the hour around here from April 2020 to 2021.  40, 50+ sirens a DAY.  Ambulance drivers in great distress.  So please jam that idea of a covid vax hoax and no vax is good vax where the sun don't shine.   NY does not think you're HELPLESS, but he urges you to get back to the garden to find a real fox, not those puppet propaganda morons on the same-name cable station.

This is just all kinds of backward.  Speaking truth to power has always been about the little guy standing up to the powers that (should not) be.

Idiocracy?  Comforting lies over difficult truths?  Rogan has many talents, but he is misusing the power of the platform his talent and industry has given him.  Still love some of his standup - especially the bit about the dolphins.

Never acquired a taste for his voice, arrangements or ability as master of the instruments. If he,d spring for people who know how to play and let someone else. Mix and arrange the song would be better, for my tastes.

His voice could be the vinegar contrast. As he does it, he's merely mixing vinegars.  IOW a little is good. Enough is too much.

Sorry about your friend, heaven is a better place...  I remember this song being used in the TV show "Wonder Years" when they got rid of the family car.  They watched it being pulled away to the junkyard and they used this song over clips of all the good times they had in the car.

Definitely one of the best songs ever written about a car. Makes me all nostalgic, and I've never really fallen in love with any car I've owned...

Neil Young
- Long May You Run, Live

From DirecTV's broadcast of Farm Aid 25: Growing Hope for America, Neil Young performs "Long May You Run" at Miller Park in Milwaukee on October 2, 2010. Farm Aid was started by Willie Nelson, Neil Young and John Mellencamp in 1985 to keep family farmers on the land and has worked since then to make sure everyone has access to good food from family farmers.

Amazing performance. His voice is still perfect.  vanderaa

My best laugh-out-loud moment of the day!

We sold our 1987 Honda Prelude in 1990 when our first son was born and the car seat wouldn't fit (adult in the small back seat). A man bought it for his teenage son who promptly totaled it one month later. Your post makes my eyes well up. We loved that car.

One of my favorite coast-to-coast companions was the Silver Seed (named after another Neil verse). She saw so much, and took me so far.

Good sitting on the porch, swinging away with your sweetheart at your side and the kids nearby.
Very cool!
I've read a few of the comments, and there are some snarks, and you're entitled. I love Neil Young. His voice sometimes drives me bugf*ck, but he always gets his point across. And usually, he does it with style.

I love this particular song because it was written for a vehicle and not a woman or a cause. And it always creates visions of sunshine, sand, and a VDub van parked on the beach, with the prospect of a bonfire and a view of a moonrise or a really great sunset. That he can conjure an image like that should be testament enough that he knows how to turn a phrase.

Love this song.

I prefer the faster version from the Stills~Young collaboration album circa '77.
After suffering through a Joni Mitchell song this morning (thankfully it's rated under 5 by the entire RP community), I've decided I'm going to take it easier on Neil from here on out.  I just upped my rating for this song.

If anyone has seen the HBO sports documentary about the 1980 US Olympic Hockey team (the Miracle on Ice), this is the song that is played over the closing credits.  They show all the pictures of the players when they were youngsters and what they all did after the Olympics, and where they are now.  It's very cool, and it's the perfect song to fit the mood of the story.

I was playing in a duo and we'd just finished packing our gear after one the worst places I'd ever played. I wanted to pack the whole gigging thing in, sell the gear and never have to deal with drunk hillbillies again. My buddy went to get paid while I waited in the truck, angry and tired. This song came on and it changed my whole outlook on everything.

I'll never forget how all the negative left and I felt a very comfortable peace.

{#Eek} Was this a positive review? Nothing about his show that I saw at the Santa Cruz Civic some years back could remotely be called "ugly." In fact, his guitar solo on "Hurricane" remains in my memory as the most passion-filled rock exhibition I've yet had the opportunity to witness.
Ahhhh, Neil Young. I think you are my favorite. <3

Uh, like NY or not, that would be 60's, 70's, 80's, 90's, and 00's icon.  This song is from the 70s, but the performance is from the 90s.

And it's as good as most things from this century.

Don't you listen to those Neil Young naysayers Bill, you just keep the Neil Young flowing. {#Meditate}
Very clever, after Bowie's Bridge Concert version of Heroes.
Original was off the (very good) Stills-Young Band LP, circa '76.
Amusing extract from a review in the Village Voice
on Neil's recent show at Madison Square Garden.

"His own guitar solos are luridly violent affairs-he staggers crazily about like an enraged fisherman who doesn't realize he's hooked the seat of his own pants, his spastic jerks and lurches somehow not corresponding to any sound anyone is making, including him. The effect is profoundly ugly and equally mesmerizing, and initially, it enthralls"

ok so does this mean we wont hear another Niel Young song for the rest of the day?- ok good.

Is this really about a car? It's so wistful and sweet. I never felt that way about a car.
