I like the sentiment here, but feel like this would have been better with a lighter touch and a bit more spare arrangement.

Mark Knopfler is my favorite guitarist (and top 3 artist) of the past 40 years. He was very, very good with Dire Straits. His solo work since is sublime.
His guitar sound is like aural mercury, just flows like a silver river.
I want to hear a Warren Zevon tune following this....
What I often say in the arms of a great guitar melody or rip. It's 20 minutes too short!

But unlike Dylan he respect the audience with a perfect and warm rendition of the songs !

My only sad thought is, why didn't he attend the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame presentation with the rest of Dire Straits? It was so awkward for the band, and seemed disrespectful on his part. All I know is when he was asked if he was going to go he said, "I just don't feel it." That was really dismissive of his fellows who were there to get their just reward. All the other groups were able to play a piece but not Dire Straits. It was a very noticeable gap. Unless someone around here has the inside track, I guess I will never understand. Did he part ill company from the band?

Wow - I bought this album on cassette in Vienna in 1996, and it was one of maybe... 2? or 3? cassettes in my bags for a year in eastern europe. Probably knew every lyric of every song on this album for a while.
As far as Darling Pretty goes - pretty classic, sublime, Knopfler. No frills... just gorgeousness.

Often I find myself enjoying the song even more due to the visuals that are provided to go along with the song. This is one such song. Thanks, RP!
I didn't start listening to Mark Knopfler until long after he started performing but am glad I was finally introduced to him. What a pro!

Music appreciation is in the ear of the listener. I was just telling a friend of mine today how Dire Straits/Mark Knopfler have gradually become firmly embedded on my top 10 list of artists I absolutely love to listen to. One of the reasons I listen to RP is that Bill seems to think so, too.
Just an extraordinary melody, played to perfection, but 20 minutes too short.

I think MK is a brilliant musician. Top notch guitarist and writer. I'm glad he is a core artist on RP.

Yet another first for me here at RP.
And shame on me. I'm a big Knopfler fan. He's one of my very favorite guitarists. And I've not heard this before.
Not only will I now get it on iTunes, but I'm also sending a few of my measly bucks to this radio enterprise. With guitar pieces like that, is surely is a form of paradise.
And it's an instant 8.
This is a really very good album, would like to see more of these songs here.
THIS is exactly what I most value about RP - finding that hidden gem deep cut from a well-known artist. Anybody can spin Sultans of Swing, but finding these ones takes a special ear and effort. Nice work.
