Yeah, heard the diesel drumming all down the line.
Oh, heard the wires a humming all down the line.
Yeah, hear the women sighing all down the line.
Oh, hear the children crying all down the line.
(All down the line.) We'll be watching out for trouble, yeah.
(All down the line.) And we'd better keep the motor running, yeah.
(All down the line.) Well, you can't say yes and you can't say no,
Just be right there when the whistle blows.
I need a sanctified girl with a sanctified mind to help me now.
Yeah, all the people singing all down the line.
Mmmm, watch the men all working, working, yeah. (All down the line.)
(All down the line.) We're gonna open up the throttle yeah.
(All down the line.) We're gonna bust another bottle, yeah.
(All down the line.)
I need a shot of salvation, baby, once in a while.
Hear the whistle blowing, hear it for a thousand miles.
(All down the line.) We're gonna open up the throttle, yeah.
All down the line, We're gonna bust another bottle, yeah.
Well you can't say yes, and you can't say no,
Just be right there when the whistle blows.
I need a sanctified mind to help me out right now.
Be my little baby for a while.
Won't you be my little baby for a while?

This song (and the rest of the album) turns 50 on May 12.
Never hear this. Outstanding Rolling Stones near their peak.

BillG - what happened to the the plus symbol???
Mick Taylor’s guitar Keef - sublime
another great one from Exile
Most excellent!
They don't make rock and roll songs like that anymore!

Still and always a hot song
When I was young, my cousin loved the Stones; me, not so much. Gotta say, he was right.

a good song... the 16th best of Exile ... or one of the worst of the album!

Stingray, If I had a dollar for every bombastic post of yours, I'd be the richest man on the internet. These are the Rolling Stones you silly man.
I think I do not exaggarate when saying that I am a STONES fan.
Not hardcore - not seeing any possible concert - no!
Still a fan of the first hour!
Then came "Exxile on main street"!
And I was surprised - and whole heartedly dislike it!
Then the professionals came, calling this the best STONES-album ever!
I listened again!
And again, when it was re-issued some time ago in better quality!
And...?
Still, I dislike it!
This song is nothing but another proof!

Similar tempo, different chord progressions. Much R&B-based music will have some similarities anyhow.
To me, it sounds an awful lot like Let's Spend the Night Together.

Did NOT ruin the show ... I just checked the surveillance tapes and you were really great! I've got a copy of the topless portion which is pretty funny too. Ahhhhh ... so long ago!
i'm pretty sure the cover band, Fazed Cookies, did this at the Green Lantern last friday night...where i did a memorable, albeit bad and obnoxious, mick jagger imitation all night long. i blame the Jamesons.
that poor band. i ruined their show.

CRANK IT UP!!!!!!
At the risk of sounding too subtle.... this is the BEST ALBUM EVER, from this or any other possible dimension.
Excellent work from Mr.Wyman.

New remastered version of this coming out this year, with outtakes and unreleased songs (supposedly).

Read somewhere years ago he got tired of all the druggin' and boozin' which was probably at its peak along with the band's creativity.

fans of this album may want to give Phish's 2009 Halloween Cover of it a listen. Featuring Sharon Jones & The Dap Kings
Still don't know why Mick Taylor left.

This song is just a mess. Maybe that's a good thing. Maybe that's a bad thing.

Always loved the drumming on this one, esp as the track plays out. Charlie gets to work in a bit of his swing band style.

OMG i was thinking the exact same thing while listening to this song, today...and saw your comment.
this cd is definitely part of the soundtrack to my life, during the college/irresponsible years. resonates with many of my friends from that time, too and i know we all think about that time period when we hear anything from this particular album.
it may be perverse to some, but i always wanted to play this particular tune, and also "rocks off" at my wedding reception. and i did.

Sorry friend, would have to disagree.
Easily one of their best albums, by far.
RP should have a Stones Day.
near perfect
The best memories of my life involve this album.
This isn't the best track on this album but then this album has 18 great songs. One of the best albums of all time.
Rock n' Roll drivel... the beginning of the end of any semblance of creativity from the Stones.
One of their best albums, if not their very best!
Pure rock n roll.
Keeeeeeeeeeeeeeef!!!!!
Nice!
Hey Bill! Play this song dammit! This is shakin' baby-makin' rock'n'roll nirvana!
Me too! At the Spectrum Arena in Philly!
