Boy and his dog
Went out looking for the rainbow
You know what did they learn
Since that very day

Walking by the river
And running like a blue streak
Through the fields of streams and meadows
Laughing all the way

Oh redwood tree
Please let us under
When we were young we used to go
Under the redwood tree

And it smells like rain
Maybe even thunder
Won't you keep us from all harm
Wonderful redwood tree

And a boy and his father
Went out, went out looking for the lost dog
You know what oh haven't they learned
Since they did that together
They did not bring him back
He already had departed
But look at everything they have learned
Since that, since that very day

Oh redwood tree
Please let us under
When we were young we used to go
Under the redwood tree

And it smells like rain
Maybe even thunder
Won't you keep us from all harm
Wonderful redwood tree

Ta da da da...

Master song in a master album by a master!
Not much left to say about Van ~~~
He certainly is The Man!

They will haunt me forever.
Would love to hear more from this excellent record.
This song feels like it could have fit on the Moondance album, somewhere after Into the Mystic but before Glad Tidings.
The Man is always a pleasure to hear but... there are light years between the transcendental Astral Weeks, and the later ditties so popular as background music for Rom Com movies.... just sayin'

An ALL-TIME favorite song from an ALL-TIME favorite artist!
Has the same nostalgic feel as some of the tunes on the Moondance album. Wonder if this was written then but kept off that record.
A ha!

I checked RP playlist and see that  RP played the title cut (and best cut) around 11 years ago!

C'mon Bill. Please play it again!

And it's a long way to Buffalo
It's a long way to Belfast city too
And I'm hoping the choice won't blow the hoist
'Cause this town, they bit off more than they can chew.

I'm right there with you...even with how I've lately been associating this song with the Camp Fire in NorCal in my mind, what with the inclusion of it in the RP libarary, BillG's admitted affinity for VM, and all the Redwood trees in his (former?) 'Neck of the woods'

A big fat 8 from me!  Long Live RP!!

5 --- 7
Play the title song!!!

This album was part of his group of masterpiece albums from that 1960/1970s period.

A cold, strong IPA + evening after a day's good work and some exercise + a terrif Van tune = 7 > 8.
I Don't think I ever heard a van song that I didn't like
always loved this song and this album - one of my favorites of his. "Listen to the Lion" is transcendental.
Play the title song!!!

"As we gaze out on...St Dominic's preview".

What it means, I have no clue.

love this song!!!   {#Bounce}  and entire album!

FAB
This is one of his better but un-heralded albums.

Thanks for playing one song.

Please consider playing the title cut. It's a good one.
Is this a warm-up to tomorrow St paddy celebration?

I just don't care for Van Morrison...just don't. Bring on the hate...

No hate, just a restatement of the obvious:  he's THE outstanding vocalist of his generation, the Boomer's Sinatra, Tony Bennett and Mel Torme' all in one.  Those vocalists were in the jazz subgenre, while Van is the apotheosis of R&B.
I just don't care for Van Morrison...just don't. Bring on the hate...

Some truly incredible talent on display here, quite apart from Van!

Indeed - a horn section that rivals the best in the business, including James Brown's Fabulous Flames.
So good I have to stop working and just listen.

Goood scchhhttuufff! I will have to revisit this album.{#Yes}
My favorite trees!!
This song is absolutely GREAT, as is the album.  Period.  End of story.  Van at his best.
I'm with you totally on that one!  this song is awesome.  "Almost Independence Day" and "I will be there" are also great songs off this album that go unheard and unappreaciated.   rm999 wrote:

Very nice less-heard track. I think I have this album but haven't played it in a long time.

Another one from this same album? You are forcing to buy another oldie but a goodie.
Great to hear  Van singing this.
oh wow, Van Morrison..........
I never would have guessed. This sounds so different from all of his other songs  ;-)

If you're that big a fan, you need this album, it's good. I'm curious, what do you think of Veedon Fleece?

It's OK. Not at the top of my list. A little to mystic for me.

There's a Burton Cummings song this reminds me of but I can't put my finger on it.

That was before he played a pedophile in a film, I assume.

One of Van's most inspired albums!
My favourite Van the Man LP after Astral Weeks.
