Take a walk around midnight in the city
Young Blood is hiding there somewhere
If you're looking for something to do
There's always something happening there

Like I & Bragger, we borrowed a coupe to day
Here come Pepe and she's got a friend with a chevrolet
But she ain't running
She's walking a little slow
And she ain't crying-- she's just singing a little low

They say this city will make you dirty
But you look alright
You feel real pretty when he's holding you tight
City will make you mean
But that's just make-up on your face
Love will wash you clean in the night's disgrace

Find a block where your people can find you
Keep a third eye watching behind you
You never know when you're making a memory
They will wish they were here together again, someday
Kids looking for something to get into--
Take a look
Two for the movie show
Three for the back row
Hold on tight!
Remember, you might have looked like cool twelve
But your fuse just felt like dynamite

Take a walk around midnight in the city
Young Blood will find you there, somewhere
And if you're looking for something to do
There's always something happening there

I just finished reading her memoirs, Last Chance Texaco, Chronicles of an American Troubadour.  What a unique woman and artist she is.  I found her story full of family frustrations, musical glories, and profound relationships.  The book is a real gem.
Great artist, great record. Just finished reading Last Chance Texaco, her wonderful auto-bio. Highly recommended.
Not bad the first 4000 times, but as with Muskrat Love, it has been played to death.  I just hit mute now.
As good as it gets. RLG and Tom Wates. Short lived but epic paring.

She made some fantastic records - Pirates, The Magazine and Flying Cowboys are all worth checking out.

Sorry.  Gotta disagree.  That first album was awesome and everything she did after that paled in comparison.

Agree. She got "mumbly" and you couldn't understand what she was singing, and the albums were too much of the same. I've tried a few times to go back and re-listen  to some of them, but could never get into those later albums, even the one Walter Becker produced.

There are at least six extremely good albums - end-to-end - in that output.

This is one of my favorite Ricke Lee Jones tunes. I liked her unique style and have enjoyed many of her albums. Great dance tune.
How many breathy vocalists populated music in the last 20 years?  I swear I can't tell them apart.  Rickie Lee Jones' first album established her as a unique voice and that alone  makes her stand out of the crowd.
At first I was happy to hear Olivia Newton John on RP. But then I checked the info and... BAM, I learn something new. I was three when this song came out. Through no fault of my own, I heard about Olivia but not about Rickie Lee Jones. I blame this on Bill, he doesn't play her as often as she deserves.
Finally another song by rickie which is damn good
UTTERLY AWESOME!

Agreed!  And it just seems as if she had such sky-is-the-limit potential that was never fulfilled.

You gotta check out her album from 2016 - it's fantastic. She's got a new one coming out next month.

Tom Waits, Miles and Cannonball, and Rickie Lee: what a fabulous medley RP has woven this gorgeous spring evening! Bravo, bravo!

36 years this summer.
Her latest is really delightful.
(Actually, that's just the word The Guardian used: delightful.)

Miles and then Ricki. Awesome. As usual.

Real nice song from a dang decent album.

Can you imagine the child (singer or otherwise) these two would have produced if (the relationship) had lasted?

Boggles the mind don't it?  One thing I didn't realize, Rickie's song "Easy Money" was first recorded by Lowell George of Little Feat for his first solo effort.  I've always thought of the lady as a feminine Tom Waits....which very well may be why the relationship didn't last (heh).  She was/is one of a kind....and that ain't necessarily a bad thang.....

Just sayin'...
i heard a story that while she was in the studio recording, some big type, like muddy waters or some such, who was in another studio, stopped by to listen to her, and commented that she had an amazing voice, even tho he couldn't understand a word she was saying. i have loved watching her career over the decades, and the styles of music she has explored. one of my all time faves.
ug....maybe its the backup singers or horns....but this... 3->2.....{#Eh}
{#Bananapiano}  Godlike for me at least
A wonderful artist and artiste. Wish her output was far greater than what we got. All power to you Rickie Lee Jones
do it......{#Dance}

Hang in there, mistermerp - I'm sure Bill will play an ABBA song soon... {#Cheesygrin}

Miss you so much, Cynaera...

love this groovy song...

Bill is on a Ricky Lee Jones course these days or his algorithms have gone cuckoo.
A feel good song.
Anything following T. Waits deserves a high score. Sorry folks, I can appreciate what he does...but it's just not for me. This tune is like water on a burning beach.
You did it again Bill - "Swordfishtrombones" into Rickie Lee Jones.  And it worked again!  I always loved this woman, but she never would love me back.  I should know, stalked her for years.  Don't care if she looks like Tommie Lee Jones, either.  Note to youngsters out there:  you're going to grow old and ugly-out, if you manage to live long enough.
Something about her voice just bugs me.  I can't put my finger on it.

Touche'! And thanks, Bill, for reminding me of this song. The album, her first, would probably be in my top 10.
Can't help feeling its playing at the wrong speed and totally lacking the funk it so desperately craves not to mention the heavy lashings of what sounds to me like the theme tune to the Golden Girls

now there's a blast from the past!
Nice pairing of Tom Waits and Rickie Lee - inseparable

Just remarked, the other day, what a wonderful album "Rickie Lee Jones" is.
OMFG ... the most malogious thing I have heard on the usually magnificent RP

Damn. I HATE it when I forget the pineapple. Must be a short circuit in one of my synapses...  Off to visit your link - do they deliver? To Nevada?  Rats.... Sometimes I really feel isolated from the rest of the civilized world.

EDIT:  Thin crust? Personal service? Wicked-good ambiance? Great price?  Okay, I'm noting this one in my list of places to visit. Thanks, as always, Businessgypsy. You never cease to amaze or enlighten me.

You know what, I wouldn't mind a good ABBA tune either.

need to pull out the vinyl one of these days. sooo long ago
wow this is soooo bad. comparisons to early 80s movie's studio filler tracks come to mind. i coulda swore i heard this one in 'Blame It On Rio'

so f-ing bad.. i wish i could make it stop.

Wow - talk about histrionics.  Hey, SmilinJimmy, are you sure it was Rickie's music and not that double-pepperoni pizza (I told you the combination of anchovies and jalapeños would be bad!) and seven boilermakers you had earlier? I recommend drinking an Alka-Seltzer, taking four Percogesics (for the ensuing hangover), and sleeping until, oh, December (wouldn't want you to miss the winter solstice.)

And dolfan - you're doing remarkably well for a person with no head.  How do you see to type? I hear there's casting going on for a new zombie movie, and the people who audition don't need heads - they just need to be able to shamble convincingly.  To your credit, you abstained from using the barfo-emoticon, so if I hear of other casting options for a person with no head, I'll let you know (although it'd have to be via e-mail, and with no head, I don't really know how you'll be able to read your e-mail... but I guess we'll cross that bridge when we come to it... um, except that if you don't have a head, how will you know when you've reached the bridge.... unless you were using a metaphor, in which case you should have quantified your statement, because I'm gonna have nightmares about some unknown person staggering around without a head...)

I need to hear more Rickie Lee Jones to erase these horrible images of barfing and headless people from my brain. {#Meditate}

Bill, if you play more Rickie, I will not complain.  She is a very nice change from the norm.

Totally. Hearing anything from this album always brings me right on back, and makes me happy!

Isn't that the theme song to "Thank you for being a friend"?? Listen again
OMG - I repeated myself there - must be early onset alzheimers. Or perhaps I just miss Jerry...
Oops - I though you were about to play an episode of Seinfeld there...

Sigh!  I wish that was still on....
Great!  Please follow with some Chuck E. Weiss.
Thought for a moment there was an episode of Seinfeld coming up!  Ahh - what a show!

See, you do learn something every day.  She and Tom were in a relationship at one time?  Interesting.  What a clash of brilliance.

This was my first exposure to Rickie Lee; I've worn this CD out.  Terrific.  The lady's amazing.

Pretty much just a natural musical genius...................
Makes me want to go home. Have a great evening, all...
Classic great tune.
I listen to RP in the hope of avoiding this kind of music.
Hah, awesome, an old comment of mine. I suppose it is cool to hear Tom and Ricki back to back, but its generally not a combo that you would associate as being near each other. Only on RP do you go from Tom Waits to Rickie Lee Jones, right? Steely Dan next?
What part of cool don't you dig, bro?

Instant smile!!
.. Chevrolet ... sing it Rickie!
Not bad. How about adding "Rainbow sleeves", which Tom Waits wrote for her? Really beautiful song.
Sounds like something I would hear in Zellers...
I love this CD (her first) and the next one. After that, a bit downhill...
