I have nothing left to say
But I'm gonna say it anyway
Thirty years upon a stage
And I hear the people say
Why won't he go away?

I pass the houses of the dead
They're calling me to join their group
But I stagger on instead
Dear God, sweet God
Protect me from the truth, hey

I'm dead but I don't know it
He's dead, he's dead
I'm dead but I don't know
He's dead, he's dead
I'm dead but I don't know it
He's dead, he's dead
Please don't tell me so
Let me, let me, let me go

I have a family to support
But surely, that is no excuse
I've nothing further to report
Time you spend with me
Is time you lose

I always thought that I would know
When it was time to quit
That when I lost a step or two or three or four or five
I'd notice it
Now that I've arrived here safely
I find my talent has gone
Why do I go on and on and on and on and on
And on and on and on and on and on

He's dead, he's dead, he's dead
I don't know it
He's dead, he's dead, he's dead
I didn't know
He's dead, he's dead, he's dead
I didn't know it
Who would be so cruel to tell me so?
You're dead!

When will I end this bitter game?
When will I end this cruel charade?
Everything I write all sounds the same
Each record that I'm making
Is like a record that I've made
Just not as good

I'm dead but I don't know it
He's dead, he's dead
I'm dead but I don't know
He's dead, he's dead
I'm dead but I don't know it
He's dead, he's dead
Please don't tell me so
Please don't tell me so
You're dead!

"everything I write sounds the same..."

Glad you recognize this about your music.

Welcome to OUR Hell, Randy.
On Nov. 1, I presume.

Irony is a bitch.

The lyric in this song is priceless Randy...listen to it, and the reason it sounds like other songs is clear.

Hittin' artists like the Stones and Aerosmith and Randy Newman right where they live. Although this album was quite good.

{#High-five} Awesome!

Randy does a great ode for aging rockers banking on talent spent long ago. Too many years of fans screaming about every crappy thing they do onstage, I guess. He's put out a few, too. Wish this was better, but that's not the point, is it?
The theme song of a lame-duck?

Girl...I want...to be...with you

There are many people walking around who died years ago, but no one told them. I suspect most of them don't have the sort of self-awareness that Newman possesses, however.

I gave this a 2, but it's still all good being Halloween and all. It's either this or I break out Current 93's "Ach Golgotha (Maldoror is Dead)" That would pretty much guarantee no trick or treaters.
He's Dead. But he doesn't know it.
Dead people... got no reason to live.
While I appreciate the Subtle Irony of playing this right after Michael Jackson's "Thriller", unfortunately this also means that I missed this Randy Newman tune, since I hastily evacuated to the LRC.
Like this album very much.
This is bad. "He's dead, he's dead, he's dead..." cheesy.
For a few bars there I thought the rhythm guitar was sampled from You Really Got Me. Cool tune. Looks like we're switching into Halloween High-Gear! Muwahhhhh Hahahaha . . .
