Hopping through the rain forest
Escaping the fire like all the rest
Trying to keep my species alive
Looking for lilies and tasty flies
My legs are pumping as fast as they need to
My legs are drying as quick as glue
I look at the sun for one of my kind
I am a frog and I have a mind
You sold me out, you're losing me out here [unclear]
Yeah I was a frog and now I am a song
Less and less of us everday
The humans have screwed us the human way
Trees are falling without a sound
Into a river where they drown
You sold me out, you're losing me out here [unclear]
Yeah I was a frog and now I am a song
And I'm running just to be
Yeah I'm hoping you'll kiss me
I used to be alive
Less and less of us everday
The humans screwed the human way
Trees are falling without a sound
Into a river where they drown
Escaping the fire like all the rest
Trying to keep my species alive
Looking for lilies and tasty flies

Ack. The meter in this song is off in the bridge. The drummer is a bit laggy. Annoying! That ‘alive’ line evokes Jim Morrison.

It's "fewer" frogs, dammit. Sanctimony sounds better when it's grammatically correct.

Dang, I'm not sure I've heard this on RP since 2014. It brings back some memories.

This is an odd and amusing song about a dark reality: the sixth mass extinction event that the Earth is experiencing now because of human civilization. I don't think he quite pulls it off, in my opinion, but it was well worth a try.
Jim Morrison is still alive! I slept with her last night

Sorry it took me a few years to see and reply to your comment, but I just can't take seriously lines like "the humans screwed us the human way" or "I am a frog and I have a mind" from this guy. I just can't. Sorry. I'm such a great environmentalist that I wrote this song to speak for the frogs. Do you think I don't have the right to be a little put off by that? Maybe I'm totally off base and Crosby donated all the proceeds of this album to Greenpeace.
"The term "anthemic" is a modern word coined to describe music with a celebratory connotation. Since the target audience of pop music can vary greatly, so can the celebrated subject of the anthem." (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anthem#Modern_use) Does that clarify my use of the phrase "environmentalist anthem" for you?
I stand by my statements. This guy is a great songwriter, although the lyrics of this song are not typical of his body of work and seem simultaneously exaggerative and insincere to me. But the song is catchy as hell, and it sounds great blasting out the window of your Prius, so it's not all bad.

Please explain what in the lyrics is "sanctimonious" (which means "hypocritically pious or devout")? For that matter, why is it an "anthem"?
The lyrics just comment on the rapid loss of habitat and biodiversity taking place due to humans' impact. The data about rainforest destruction by humans couldn't be any more objective. That's undeniable fact — unless one possesses absolutely amazing powers of denial (in which case, the term "santimonious" would almost be fitting...).

Morrison had an addiction problem and I believe that's what killed him but I don't believe that Krieger, Densmore or Manzarek suffered from those demons.

This is the way the Doors would have sounded today if they weren't always stoned, less self indulgent and had a bit more refined talent.

bumped up the rating a few notches just for the lyrics...but liking the tune more and more, too.
As many posters have noted, definitely a Doors vibe here. Maybe this is what Jim might have done later in his career, had he not done whatever he did to wind up dead in that bathtub in France...
trippy----my girlfriend just said "that sounds like Jim Morrison"........

You are playing such an awesome set. I am thankful for Radio Paradise!! (And yes, I'm a supporter.)
Had to make sure I didn't miss a Doors song
See the Doors influence, but also read some Beck into this too.
Bottom line, it's pretty damn good.

I always love hearing this on RP, so I clicked on the link to buy it on iTunes.
Hearing it on my MP3 gave it a whole new presence and made me concentrate on the lyrics,
which blew my mind
"Less and less of us every day
The humans have screwed us in the human way...
I was frog, now I'm a song"
This should be the Green Party's theme tune!
Thank you RP for bringing us these gems!

Seriously, I'm just averse to when a singer sings from the perspective of a frog. Is that so hideous?
Since frogs can't speak to us of their problems of survival, it takes a creative mind to do so. Did he make you think about the destruction of the world's rainforests? If yes, then he has met his goal. If not, it probably wouldn't matter anyway. Some minds cannot be reached.

Less and less of us everyday
The humans have screwed us the human way
Trees are falling without a sound
Into a river where they drown
And you sold me out, you sold me out
Yeah I was a frog and now I am a song
It did to me too: same reason why I wanted to reply.

Yes, yes it does. I came in here to say that. I think it might be the repeating of just a few of his words after some of the lyric lines.

A discussion about lyrics and environmental politics aside... Does this remind anyone else of Jim Morrison and the Doors?

Auto-rant? I only said I prefer the lyrics of his other songs. Are you taking the piss?
And speaking of metaphor, the "kiss" is almost certainly a metaphor for "saving the rainforest". You're reading too much into a single line of the song at the expense of every other line of the song, which is an unambiguous lament about deforestation and the extinction of its native species. It's painfully clear.
<shrug> We'll have to differ on interpretations. To me this is a fun song about a guy trying to get off. To you and other it's an environmental protest. Short of in-depth textual analysis, or interrogating the songwriter, we'll never know.

Jim Morrison vibe here. Frog and all.
A discussion about lyrics and environmental politics aside... It appears that I'm not alone in thinking that this guy sounds like Jim Morrison. Probably without the heroin, though.

Yeah, don't you hate it when a song has a point of view and makes you think?
I bet that guy totally hates environmentalists and environmentalism.
Seriously, I'm just averse to when a singer sings from the perspective of a frog. Is that so hideous?

Er, you have heard of 'metaphor' haven't you? Hmm? The "frog" referred to is 'frog' as in what princesses kiss to find a prince. Listen next time before launching into an auto-rant.

Agreed! Morrison, had he lived and matured, would have made music much like this piece. From lizard to amphibian!
Yes this Vast frog does sound quite a bit like a subdued Jim Morrison....

Fair enough, but there's certainly no shortage of sanctimonious songs out there. Personally, I find the beat here irresistable (catchy, as you suggest). He could be sanctimonious about plane crashes and I'd still be diggin' this beat.
