I don't want to work
I want to bang on the drum all day
I don't want to play
I just want to bang on the drum all day
Ever since I was a tiny boy
I don't want no candy, I don't need no toy
I took a stick and an old coffee can
I bang on that thing 'til I got blisters on my hand
Because
I don't want to work
I want to bang on the drum all day (yes, I do)
I don't want to play
I just want to bang on the drum all day (that's right)
When I get older they think I'm a fool
The teacher told me I should stay after school
She caught me pounding on the desk with my hands
But my licks was so hot
I made the teacher wanna dance
And that's why
I don't want to work
I want to bang on the drum all day (hey, why not?)
I don't want to play
I just want to bang on the drum all day
I don't want to work
I want to bang on the drum all day
I don't want to play
I just want to bang on the drum all day (listen to this)
Every day when I get home from work
I feel so frustrated, the boss is a jerk
And I get my sticks and go out to the shed
And I pound on that drum like it was the boss's head, because I...
I don't want to work
I want to bang on the drum all day (hey, hey)
I don't want to play
I just want to bang on the drum all day (I can bang that drum)
I don't want to work
I want to bang on the drum all day
I don't want to play
I just want to bang on the drum all day
I don't want to work
I want to bang on the drum all day (hey, you wanna take a bang at it?)
I don't want to play
I just want to bang on the drum all day
I don't want to work
I want to bang on the drum all day
I don't want to play
I just want to bang on the drum all day (I can do this all day)
I don't want to work
I want to bang on the drum all day

Blimey. Haven't heard that in many a year. Not even on RP. .

I have to hand it to Bill for digging up some old classics rather than just playing the usual sets.
Did the Packers just score?  Lambeau leap time?....

(14 years between comments here btw...this one was really, really dusty in the RP basement....)
i just want to eat dark chocolate all day.
I've got all the Todd you need at my podcast. https://bobcerm.podomatic.com And I will take most Todd request as well! Enjoy! Bubb
Pathetic RP. you play this song ( one of Todd's worst ) and ignore his great solo stuff. What about Utopia?? SOMEONE needs a music education at RP.
No no no no. This is every commercial radio station on Friday mornings.
This is kind of a fun song, but it's far from Todd's best work. He's got quite an impressive catlog spanning about three decades, including the Utopia stuff, that really deserved to be heard by a wider audience. If you're not familiar with Todd, don't draw any conclusions from this song.

You SAID it. I'm running out of reasons to support this station.
My sister and I always sing to this song!!!!!

Isn't this song played during the end credits of every Chevy Chase movie? Annoying.
It's also played over the PA every time our football Rams score a touchdown at the Ed Jones Dome. Equally annoying. Not really a "football" song (or even a good song) if you ask me, but I guess Todd Rundgren gets a pass on this one for some of the other great stuff he's put out over the years, as Hairfarmer and dmax have previously pointed out.
Thanks, I've tried a few tunes, but nothing added yet. "Lysistrata" is under reviewing. I'd love to haer anything from the "With A Twist Album" I was out of the loop when it came out and by the time I heard about it it was out of print so I've never heard it.

Exactly. Explains why I like the Ramones so much.

Great set to wrap up (or start to wrap up) a Friday at work... Just when that after-lunch food coma is starting take over, RP comes through to get my energy up & through the last of the week.
When songs are this fun, somehow the quality is not that relevant.

Sheeesh. Some of you RP listeners can be so stuffy. Lighten up. In my mind, truer words were never spoken.
ok song, but todd has done much much better work. its a shame that this and \"hello, it\'s me\" are all you ever hear anymore.
C\'mon people, it\'s *funny*. The repetition is deliberate, ironic, amusing... It\'s not his best, but somehow, it works (for me, at least).

also very bad.

First version of this song I heard was Bad Manners. Gotta love Buster Bloodvessel.

and to the others.. yes I guess that is a learned or "programmed" response to hearing it on the regular radio.. but I can't help it.. I like it..
seems like every dorky radio station plays this one on friday. that doesn\'t make the song dorky, just the moronic programers that allow it. i agree with you johray 63. and what happened to the other todd songs you uploaded? paradise limbo? :(
this song takes me back to a time when i had no idea what music meant and i don\'t like being there i can still hear all the clowns and morons on z-100\'s \"z morning zoo\" from new york city yelling and making zero sense what ever happened to mr leonard?
Come on guys...Lighten up...tell me you foot isn\'t tappin\' and head isn\'t longing for the weekend (pimp)
good friday tune-reminds me of my sister who used to play this 45 all day.

Well, believe me, I uploaded a whole bunch of classy Rundgren songs and this one more or less out of despair, 'cause none of the other Rundgren songs got added! But, I must say, also Todd Rundgren has the right to produce a goofy song, every now and then and in that respect, he did a good job I think. Just some plain, good fun. We sure need that these days (well, anyday actually).

*This* is the guy that produced \'Skylarking\'?? Yeek.
WICKED cool! Hard to believe he sang, \"Hello, It\'s Me,\" huh?
ummmmm... what?
