The roses are heavy
With rain and for ages
They'll have to veil
And the pictures are whispering
The ones we belong to
Caught in forever
Startled and proud
All laughing together

And babe, if you'd met him
I picture you'd sit
Lost in my wisdom
With two barrelled wings
Then he'd steal you for dancing
And you'd lend him your arms
And I'd stooge for your laughing
And you'd swirl in the chaos of joy

The roses are heavy
With rain and for ages
They'll have to veil
And the pictures are whispering
He'd steal you for dancing
And you'd lend him your arms
And I'd stooge for your laughing
And you'd swirl in the chaos of joy

This song. Thanks RP.
Beautiful lyrics with Guy's smooth vocals   swoon

sad bunch of  twats

Maybe not the best place for such candid, naked prejudice.

Well, it seems like someone's got their knickers in a twist over Guy Garvey's soulful crooning! Perhaps a dose of his 'plaintive' tunes might soothe that prickly disposition. After all, music is subjective, but unnecessary insults? Now that's just off-key. Cheers to embracing diversity in musical taste, even if it means agreeing to disagree with our Northern pals

Best lyricist in the business imho.

I think he says “chaos of charm”

Such great comment.
I am hearing Peter Gabriel

I wish we could nudge things a bit toward Elbow's other songs.. this one is on every few days it seems.
such a wonderful tune. the piano the bass... Guy's voice. Lovely
I’ve said this before, but it needs repeating, my life is better because of Radio Paradise. I’m sure I never would have known/heard of Elbow without RP. This is why I give to the cause.

Bit niche
It hadn't occurred to me, but now every time i hear his voice.........
I love this. Absolutely love it

the seldom scene…

I actually saw The Seldom Scene when I was a kid, mid 70's, in Virginia. Which made them local folks - from Maryland. Never forgot that show, wow.

Apparently they're still touring...
c.

always love Elbow's lyrics

Hey, the keyboardist keeps falling asleep on the keyboard...

Chaos for joy is childish…
This is lovely and engaging -- it reminds me of Jacob Collier's voice. Wonderful. Nice find.
I like Elbow but this song is excruciating.
If I could sing, I'd want to sound like Guy and emote lines like "and I'd stooge for your laughing"...
Elbow? Time for the good headphones.
As Ren, from Ren & Stimpy, would say..."I'm gonna hit ya, and yer gonna fall"

You ok hun?
I don't know why, but I just don't care for his sound. His lyrics are wonderful.

Great tune.

People are funny, though...if this was a Coldplay song, the feedback would have been less than positive. Go figure.
Never heard it before and yet hummed along all the time. Another one of those wonderful RP moments! Thanx for that.
"And you'd swirl in the chaos of joy"...
What a wonderful turn of a phrase...
What a wonderful thing to wish upon someone you love...

Going to pass that wish on to the love of my life on this St. Valentine's Day 2022...
So I got massively confused... I thought the song title was a mistake. Turns out it's correct. Who else but Elbow would make an album called The Seldom Seen Kid, then years later make a song called The Seldom Seen Kid and the only thing they have in common is Guy's silky voice

Why, Thank You forthbrdge... Don't think I've ever 'smoot' anyone/anything before
Extra points for the dissonant chords! I quite like it!
A mellow Elbow.
A soundtrack for these times. I'm liking it!
