There lived a young boy name o' Rocky Raccoon-a
And one day his woman ran off with another guy
Hit young Rocky in the eye
Rocky didn't like that
He said, "I'm gonna get that boy"
So one day he walked into town
Booked himself a room in the local saloon
Rocky Raccoon
Checked into his room
Only to find Gideon's Bible
Rocky had come
Equipped with a gun
To shoot off the legs of his rival
His rival, it seems
Had broken his dreams
By stealing the girl of his fancy
Her name was Magill
And she called herself Lil
But everyone knew her as Nancy
Now, she and her man
Who called himself Dan
Were in the next room at the hoedown
A-Rocky burst in
And grinning a grin
He said, "Danny, boy, this is a showdown!"
But Daniel was hot
And he drew first and shot
And Rocky collapsed in the corner
Aah

Now the doctor came in
Stinking of gin
And proceeded to lie on the table
He said, "Rocky, you met your match"
And Rocky said, "Doc, it's only a scratch
And I'll be better
I'll be better, Doc, as soon as I am able"
A-now Rocky Raccoon
He fell back in his room
Only to find Gideon's Bible (Daa da-da-da)
A-Gideon checked out (Poor)
And he left it no doubt (Rocky)
To help with good Rocky's revival (Ohhh)

GET-A-SENSE-OF-HUMER
SENSE-OF-HUMMUS, yum yum!
Yes! Very well put, and exactly how I feel. But it does make me recall how giddy I got when I saw them on TV -- and as I still get when watching a Special or one of their films -- at the age of 67!.
I played the White Album so many times I wore out the grooves (had a crappy turn table like we teenage girls at the time had, right?) It is definitely a universal classic and this song is hilarious.

Grandpa? Is that you?
Forgettable? I know all of these lyrics by heart and can sing it at the drop of a hat. (A straight line if ever there was one, but I refuse to withdraw it.)

each time you check into a hotel, ever thought of writing "Rocky was here" in the Gideon bibles?
Just reached over and did it in my hotel room....
Theres just something about this that I love. Don't know why, the honky tonk piano?
I always contend that the White Album should have been trimmed from a double to a single album.
That's how I have it in my iTunes :)
Agreed. I could have done without "The Continuing Story of Bungalow Bill," too.
Mike, the Beatles "yes" man ->
Everybody in my church loves this song...
..i'll never complain about a Beatles tune..

IMHO, the sound improvements are striking, especially through good speakers or good headphones. And I think the mono releases pretty much top the stereo releases before Revolver, the first album that was deliberately mixed for stereo, which Martin still didn't get right until Sgt. Pepper's. I'm pretty much a fanatic—I was 14 when they first appeared on Ed Sullivan—and I've bought both the stereo and mono sets. Both represent improvements in the sound quality, but the mono set is more fun to listen to.
Thank you, WonderLizard. In reading your comments, I respect your humble opinion(s).

The last round is noticably better than any previous. Worth buying for sure if you still like hearing them all the time.

I have heard this song all my life, (im 45, so I was only a handful of years late to the party), but I just dont get it. Wish I did because I realize the magnitude of the Beatles and the importance of their impact, but I just..dont..get it.
I sort of agree with you. The White Album was a mix of killers and fillers. Although clever, this tune falls into the latter.

Quite. A Scouser doing Hillbilly is as convincing as Dick van Dyke's Cock-er-nee accent in Chitty Chitty Bang Bang.
Um..not sure why you are listening to RP then...
what, it's the Beatles? ah, sorry, then I'll have to give it a 10
My sentiments exactly

Did you need to remind yourself how good this song was?
Gotta be the Beatles for most.
The emergency services wave-band
I'll never hear this song the same again, since my Evidence professor last year taught it as his first "case". (Yes, I loved the class :)
" "Rock and Roll Music" is a song written and originally recorded by Chuck Berry which became a hit single in 1957, and was later covered by many artists, notably The Beatles"

Awe come on! I must have heard a hundred Beatles tunes by age 10, but not this one. This is the only radio station on which I have ever heard this one (yes, I own the White Album). You can't really be surprised someone hasn't heard it before. It is not a well-known song, unless you're living in your Beatles bubble.
By the way, it's quite corny, and I for one don't like it at all.
Good one! (That was supposed to be funny, right?)
Gotta be the Beatles for most.
Thin White Rope. Their version of "Some Velvet Morning" is still the track I hope to die to (preferably by being shot by Jessica Alba's jealous husband)
Gotta be the Beatles for most.
I still like it though - it was nice to see them do music that was a little silly - and a lot different. It beats the hell out of Revelution #9 (IMHO)
funny....never heared this song before. nice!
no way!

indeedy! one wonders what would happen if Louis Vuitton bags started songwriting, would all the "fans" give them 8-10 ratings! come on....this basically sucks, just cause its the beatles (cockroaches, to our yanky cousins) they get high scores, as do all their songs! bizarre bizarre (ozric tenticles!)
PS yes, they do have a long history of shaping music, but not ALL of their tunes are good.........
good night!
Umm ... it's not available on iTunes. How could that be?
One of the most requested songs we use to play back in the early 70s. Unfortunately it was most requested because we added some very dirty lyrics.
Now I'm curious! 😊 A quick attempt to search the web didn't get me anything funny, can you share a hint or link, please? Cheers!
