It's a little bit funny this feeling inside
I'm not one of those who can easily hide
I don't have much money but boy if I did
I'd buy a big house where we both could live
If I was a sculptor, but then again, no
Or a man who makes potions in a traveling show
I know it's not much but it's the best I can do
My gift is my song and this one's for you
And you can tell everybody this is your song
It may be quite simple but now that it's done
I hope you don't mind
I hope you don't mind that I put down in words
How wonderful life is while you're in the world
I sat on the roof and kicked off the moss
Well a few of the verses well they've got me quite cross
But the sun's been quite kind while I wrote this song
It's for people like you that keep it turned on
So excuse me forgetting but these things I do
You see I've forgotten if they're green or they're blue
Anyway the thing is what I really mean
Yours are the sweetest eyes I've ever seen
And you can tell everybody this is your song
It may be quite simple but now that it's done
I hope you don't mind
I hope you don't mind that I put down in words
How wonderful life is while you're in the world

There's a lot of Elton John here, some of it quite cheesy. Why no Billy Joel? His album Piano Man is fantastic.

I went to Las Vegas a week ago for Sir Elton's show, and it was so good that I also got tickets for him last Sunday in San Francisco. It was a truly magical show - he played for almost three hours, all my favorite songs. I am seriously considering going to London next year for his last show of this tour. If you have a chance to see him live, I highly recommend it. A consummate performer and entertainer.
I was at that SF show. What a special evening! He was totally engaged, seemed to be loving it all, and the big finish...leaving through the screen like The Truman Show and all that implies...(Captain) fantastic!

Played this song at my wedding, August of 2021. Timeless.
An interesting sidenote in my life. When Elton John was touring what became the 11-17-70 album, I was in 8th grade. A bunch of us wanted to get tickets to see Elton John. Of course we all had to ask our parents permission. Out of our friend group only myself and a friend who was a girl was granted permission to go. We decided not to go, because it would look too much like a “date”.
I regret that decision always.
I loved this Elton John. Pre-Captain Fantastic.
His best song if you ask me, which you're not, so saying anyway!
Back when I was young, naive, and relatively innocent ...
Thanks, Bill!
Thanks, Bill!
There is this interesting cover by Ewan McGregor in Moulin Rouge.
🖤
I left RP playing on my computer, left the house returned to hearing Your Song play and wow..this takes me back. When I was 19 years old and met the woman who became the mother of my son, we were young, in love and everything was crazy. We watched Moulin Rouge together at her apartment near the UT Campus in Austin, Tx, off Leon street. Ewan McGregor's version of Your Song played on the screen and we both felt it so deeply. The rest of that year, 2001-2002, I would break out in song singing to her, "I hope you don't mind, I hope you don't mind, that I put down in worrrrrrrds, how wonderful life is, now that yourrre in the world." A little boy came into the world as a result, who is 14 now. I'll never forget this song and how much it affected my life.
Beautifully simple and simply beautiful.
Hope you're in this world for years to come Elton. Hellova musician, singer and song writer. Nothing but love...

No, I sort of hate all the music from Elton John. All except his early stuff. This is quality. I can't deny it.
(And I was still a vague idea when this album was made.)
Early Elton is so, so good. I still like his later stuff, too but wow, the first albums were genius. Or maybe you had to be a young teenager.

Pure beauty for today
Much as I like Elton John this song was played too much
For me, one of the most emotive songs ever,
RIP Kobe

There are other great tracks on this album. His early albums are really wonderful.

Agreed! And that's why, as a kid taking piano lessons, I asked to learn this piece....was the last song I learned before lessons ended....not sure that I could still play it though it's such a great song might be worth the effort, eh? Long Live RP and all the love songs !!
Certainly in my Top 10 List of Love Songs - always pulls at my heartstrings

BEST PIANO MAN I've loved Elton John since forever.

What a start of an incredible song history. Such memories.
Never fails to bring tears to my eyes. Just because.

Not to give out my age, it works on adults as well.
Only known Elton for his later work, without RP I wouldn't get to know his early albums.
Bless all

Simply beautiful.
There is something so heartfelt and passionate about this quiet lovely song. Just perfect for a 15 year old first falling in love with everything.
Who was this guy with the big glasses so proud of his voice and so earnestly singing Bernie's songs? Where did he go?

1ST Elton album.
1ST comment,
but someone else had already rated it a 9.
Great memories associated with this song.
But while I really like the song, from me, I give it a 7.

Because Piano Man has been played at least 9,749 times on FM and I for one if I never hear it again will be too soon. It's a classic but it doesn't have the staying power of some of Elton's best work. Like this one.
