Her body is as liquid and as perfect as a wave
As tender and as vicious as a bird that I once saved
But if I touch her she won't feel it
And what I tell her she won't hear
And if she loves me she'll conceal it
And she'll cry if I come near

It takes patience to walk
And spirit to run
But nothing to pity yourself
But it's dangerous fun

Rich harvest of the grape and grain
I taste my lovers mouth
She smells of the evening rain
And the breezes from the south
But if I face her she won't know me
And if I weaken she won't wait
And she knows magic that she won't show me
And if love comes it will come too late

It takes patience to walk on
And spirit to run
But nothing to pity yourself
But it's dangerous fun

Love this voice since the 70’s
Listening to this brings back memories of the music of John Stewart.  Why isn't this legendary American folk artist not represented on RP?

I remember him performing at our high school on the south shore. and another at an outdoor summer concert on Mt St Hilaire.
I rated this a perfect 10. This album is Jesse's finest work and 1 of the all time album greats.

lol, I knew if I checked the song comments, I'd see this gif.
I'm a big fan of Jesse. But that line, "Love comes too late", ain't right.

Love always comes too early, before we know what to do with it. You know?

It's never too late. I'm grateful for whenever it comes.

Either way, God bless you, Jesse.
If I hadn't looked at this page I would have sworn I was listening to Roy Orbison.
Jesse's appearance on Elvis Cosello's "Spectacle" TV show was extraordinary. He brought Neko Case (and many others) to tears with his rendition of  "Sham-A-Ling-Dong-Ding".

Amazing song! He also looks like the kind of hipster who drinks IPA and gin in the bar up the road.

I'm no hipster but I have got a beard and a dodgy hip.  Does that count?
Yeah well I bet he's not that easy to live with either...

I know that's supposed to be poetic and beautiful (and it is!), but the five year old in me imagines her smelling like a wet dog (rain) and farts (breezes from the south)

To each their own.

We get thought and insight in the playlist that Bill crafts for us; while perhaps, in a few cases, insight is too much to ask but a little bit of thought and please use your words instead of just grabbing a mindless GIF. There's other venues for this kind of truncated thinking, please go find them.

Dude you need to to spend more time or maybe less with your five year old. Your getting down her level.

too damn funny

This is the first time i have heard this ... love it ...
I like it.  Back in my younger days, we used to advertise our parties as "dangerous fun for all ages".
Another great singer songwriter who died too young.  Lots of respect for Jesse, a Tennessean who dodged the draft & moved to Montreal as has been said...heard him in a tiny club there in the late 70s.

Outstanding lyrics.
If your my age this nugget will take you back to college days.  Dangerous fun was had, certainly.  Thanks, Jesse, for the great song and lyrics.
Eight for the lyrics alone...
RIP, Jesse.
Sigh.
"Let the ruff side drag and the smooth side show." -----   Jesse Winchester
So nice to hear a little "extra" Jesse Winchester lately.  I love the old classic singer songwriters.  Keep up the great work!
Thanks Bill.
wow, two jesse winchester songs in one day (??).  Is it his birthday or something.  Whatever the reason it's nice to hear him.....RIP Mr. Winchester.
He was really big in Montreal in the early 70's, I think he moved there from the South to avoid the draft. I got to see him play live a couple of times and I haven't heard much from him since then, too bad.
Thanks, BillG
Have not heard this in a million years.    I wonder if the album title is a reference to the 110 yard field in the Canadian Football League?

Nice comments from Bill tonite regarding...
