I thought the candle was gonna go out
The wind was blowing and the door was open
But the candle never went out, never went out
The wave found its way to the shore
I thought it was a ripple and nothing more
But the wave found its way all the way to the shore
Woah, I wanna burn this house
I know I wanna jump into the fire
Oh, oh I'm gonna tear them down
Pinnacles of my invisible empire
I know the gamble never works twice
All the distractions at the table and the weighted dice
But the thrill of it feels so nice, you do it all again
But I look to the chips I lose,
Standing on the platform with my neck in the noose
And I know its not my time, not my time
Woah, I wanna burn this house
I know I wanna jump into the fire
Oh, oh I'm gonna tear them down
The pinnacles of my invisible empire
And if I do, all the things I do
While I tell myself that I'm staying true
I'll never stop, you know I'll never stop
You know I'll never think about it
Put an end to all this time, that I would spend with it on my mind
I never stopped, you know I never stopped
You know I always wondered about it
I wondered about the wonder
Woah oh oh, I wear a rusting crown
I know this dynasty is falling
The crowd shouts for another round
To see the ruin, the spectacular, diamonds baby
Icebergs, the minarets and the marketplaces
The signal fires of my invisible empire
The wind was blowing and the door was open
But the candle never went out, never went out
The wave found its way to the shore
I thought it was a ripple and nothing more
But the wave found its way all the way to the shore

It's the end that kills, as she slows and drags out her delivery, while the rest of the musicians keep going more or less at the same pace... she builds an entire universe of imagery while her voice time travels through and around the accompanying musicians. It's utterly sublime.
Simply beautiful...

Lagavulin is not like the chemical smoke of laphroig, it was a beautiful Islay malt before it was produced industrially.
I'm more of a Highland Park fan, myself... Light & tasty...

This song is just beautifully sung. Such exquisite expression and intonation.

Fine work me lady 💕
She is so good in concert. Sigh. I miss concerts. Covid sucks.

Heresy! Lagavulin is honeyed smoke and it warms my soul. Oban is not bad but I like a little more spirit in my spirit.

Beautiful is too mediocre a word for KT 10/10.

My tall stemmed wine glass is adding a most unpleasant extra low bass note vibration from the Russian wood table.
Ahh, just need a slight lowering of the level of Valpolicella. Perfectly in tune now...dare I drink more?

Amusing indeed. Reminds me that if I had to give up all my arsehole friends I'd have zero friends.

Oh whatever. This is a beautiful follow on Elliot Smith and Calexico. Why you can't simply enjoy such magical programming is beyond me.
Wow, here I am a month later, and I still can't avoid this song on RP. Great song — the first 20 times.

We need a break from this song. Every time I turn to RP, I seem to hear it.

I'll take them both. The wife and I are united in matrimonial bliss because of a certain blueberry pie. Dessert as the basis for marriage is highly recommended.

Just to syrupy for me.
Wow. Incredible vocal performance.

Looks to me like Texas. Interesting how this CD cover says "Invisible Empire Crescent Moon". A great book was recently published titled "Empire of the Summer Moon" about the Comanche, and Quanah Parker, and the raids the Comanche did in Texas. Incredible book. John Ford's The Searchers was based on Parker's mother.

I was at the same show. Agreed. She's one of those musicians who deserve to be much more widely known. Scotland should be proud!
I just saw KT Tunstall a couple days ago at the State Room. Wow! She is a one person powerhouse and put on an excellent show. I was only vaguely familiar with her before, but at the show I knew every song (thanks, RP!) and now I'm a huge fan. Rock on KT!

Yup, the distortion is there, especially when bass/kick is there. Sounds like an overdrive.

I think there may be an issue with the audio in this upload. I keep hearing a crackle on certain notes, and I'm nearly 100% sure it's not my speakers as I don't notice it on any other songs. Am I crazy? Does anyone else notice?

The song and the album are beautiful. I only just came across it about a week ago and can't stop playing it. So different to her other stuff which I also love but if I had to choose I would choose this album over the earlier ones.

Is KT after a cameo in Game of Thrones, perhaps? Or a remake of Monty Python and the Holy Grail :o)
I loved her first two albums, but I really think she's lost her way from the wee lassie with the big voice who exploded onto the scene all those years ago. Getting a bit soft with age, KT...
Nice to see that the video was filmed in Scotland, going by the Scots pines in the forest...
She'd be a damn fine Lady of the Lake.

Yup, I was hearing the same thing. Distortion in some places. Sounds like a bad rip with the level too high.
