dancin' to 45s on the Kilmister's porch...good days
Music for listening to nuclear war air siren drills.
R.D. , The great grandfather of punk
I like how the chord-strumming rocking end of "If Only" blends into similar guitars of the start of "You Really Got Me. Nice song transition, Bill!
great song by my Kinks. Its getting too much play in my head.
Love Brian Eno's version of this song on "801 Live".

I got a baby, and her speciality was coming back from future
So I quit strutting my stuff, and lying to her didn't even cross my mind.
Pretty much left to her to turn water into wine.
I still don't know where she gets all these goods.
My poetry appreciation levels have SLOWLY risen over the years, and I'm far from an aficionado to be sure; still, I find your apparently random musings rather amusing! Long Live RP and (you too 2P2C)

The original Pye single sounds better than this.
Great song! Horrible sound. Sounds like a poorly recorded cassette tape. Maybe you can find a great live version of this song instead.

No Kinks = No Van Halen. These guys were the first band to do "heavy Metal" and every rock band post Kinks owes a debt of gratitude!
Van Halen's cover is better.

Close to iconic-solid 9
Pretty kick-ass for 1964 (or 2016, for that matter).
Classic....

I don't think the band sounds like that at all in this tune. Sure, it's got that "lo-fi" sound that most recordings had in 1964, which with many of today's ears, sounds kind of "muddy or "garage-y". As far as the musicianship, it's pretty tight, especially the rhythm section.
Amazing that this only showed up on RP about 18 months ago. A true classic even if the band sounds like they've had about 1 year's worth of music lessons and four weeks of practicing together.

She "gets" me.
Me likey like, very much!
Screams rock 'n' roll. Embodies it.
Yeah.
This and "My Generation" are two of a perfect pair. This made me a HUGE fan of 1/2 of the Kinks music and the same went for MG and The Who. (Both of those songs are tens for me)

Regarded by some to be the first heavy metal song, or at least the first with the accepted "power chord" format.

It would be terrific to hear a bit more of the old Kinks, such as their album Muswell Hillbillies.
