Heartbeat
Why do you miss when my baby kisses me?
Heartbeat
Why does a love kiss stay in my memory?

Piddly pat
I know that new love thrills me
I know that true love will be

Heartbeat
Why do you miss when my baby kisses me?

Heartbeat
Why do you skip when my baby's lips meet mine?
Heartbeat
Why do you flip and give me a skip each sign?

Piddly pat
And sing to me love's story
And bring to me love's glory

Heartbeat
Why do you miss when my baby kisses me?

Great, great song and recording. The power-pop group The Knack did a version of this around 1980 that's worth checking out.

Yes. Thank you. YT video/audio

I generally dislike 50s music, architecture, fashion, attitudes - but occasionally something shines through.

That's a bad contention on so many levels.

What? Look at the boring stuff around before these guys. His influence was massive on so many acts.

I play a lot of covers and originals for my kids so they get a flavor for music evolution, and I always ask their preference. Between this and the Knack cover, they chose the Knack!  They're 7 & 8, so I wasn't too hard on them, but I certainly felt that I was failing them as a parent at that moment.

I was 12 years old when this song was new, and remember it like it was yesterday.  For me, this is a 10.
the only thing 'missing' from this song are john, paul and george going 'ooh-ooh-ooh-ooh' in the background

Buddy Holly is a perfect example of the word "Classic". His appeal holds, even after these 50+ years.  Simple music made easy sounding...yet, why does no one else come close to the music that holds appeal over time.  He even set the basic band instruments... All this from Lubbock, Texas. The gateway to Muleshoe, Texas...

Couldn't agree more.   Some of his stuff is ageless.  I can hear his fingerprints all over the Beatles stuff all the way up to and including Rubber Soul.  How can one hear "Well Alright" and not hear Lennon singing it on Help or RS?

He was the first TRULY tragic loss in RnR history...

Oy veh!  I was 13 when Buddy Holly died. Who could forget it?  But I can tell you that a pink sweatshirt and purple pants would have qualified any teenage boy for a lickin' from the football team. Did he really wear that, or was it a designer palette from the cover artist?  Buddy was a nerd. A marvelously creative one. An original.

McCartney's documentary, "The Real Buddy Holly Story" (https://www.amazon.com/Real-Buddy-Holly-Story/dp/B0002VGTBQ), debunks more than a couple of myths. One, Buddy was far from a nerd: hip guy, hugely talented, and—like a lot of geniuses; Lennon comes to mind—knew it. Second, the glasses were a gimmick; he knew no one would ever forget the image of a rock'n'roller in nerd glasses. He had little to worry about, right? The music spoke for itself.

To respond to another post below, IMHO Buddy would have continued to write, play, and produce novel, accessible music well into the '60s and beyond. My personal guess is that his career would have had an arc a lot like Stevie Wonder's—long bursts of creativity spanning decades.

Love that military-spec bulletproof birth control device he's wearing on his face.
I haven't heard this one in a while.  It's my favorite Buddy Holly song.  Yay!!!
Tony Perkins introduced me to Buddy Holly's music (another Tony Perkins of course) and it stuck. Ironic that his class mate would have been Keith Richards, had he (TP) not been held back a year or two for failing to pass exams.

Good tune — never heard it before now. What a shame Buddy Holly died so young. I wonder what he would've done in the 60s.

Buddy!  I love his music.  My favorite song is Words of Love.  This is a close second — along with almost every other song he sang.

Somebody's been reading too much Achewood. Except there's no such thing as too much Achewood.

Yes this is great, but the cover with Humble Pie is also a floor filler.

Timeless, and an 11.

awesome...?
I think The Knack (of "My Sharona" fame) did a wicked cover of this song. Anybody remember that?
I loved the ITV show by the same name. Kinda cheesy but good.
Cool...
There are certain artists that for me rate virtually automatic 10s: The Beatles, Steely Dan, Joe Jackson—and Buddy Holly.
Yes!  So hard to believe the number of great songs Buddy Holly produced before his untimely death at 22.
Dang... NO 3 on the comments.... agreed good tune, not that I need it all day but, definatly legiondary.

Good tune. I especially like the version recorded by Humble Pie with Peter Frampton performing the vocal. IMS, I also have a version sung by John Mellencamp I like very much.
