All the world just stopped now
So you say you don't wanna stay together anymore
Let me take a deep breath babe
If you need me
Me and Neil'll be hangin' out with the dream king
Neil says hi
By the way I don't believe you're leaving
Cause me and Charles Manson like the same ice cream
I think it's that girl
And I think they're pieces of me you've never seen
Maybe she's just pieces of me you've never seen well

All the world is all I am
The black of the blackest ocean
And the tear in your hand
All the world is danging...
Dangling'...Danglin' for me darlin'
You don't know the power that you have
With that tear in your hand
Tear in you hand

Maybe I ain't used to maybes
Smashing in a cold room
Cutting my hands up every time I touch you
Maybe maybe it's time to wave goodbye now
Time to wave goodbye now
Caught a ride with the moon
I know I know you well
Better than I
Used to haze all clouded up
My mind in the daze of why it could've never been
So you say and I say
You know you're full of wish
And your "baby baby baby babies"
I tell you they're pieces of me you've never seen
Maybe she's just pieces of me you've never seen

All the world is all I am
The black of the blackest ocean
And the tear in your hand
All the world is dangin'...
Dangling'...Danglin' for me darlin'
You don't know the power that you have
With that tear in your hand
Tear in you hand
With that tear in you hand

"When Amos was 11 years old, her Peabody scholarship was rescinded and she was asked to leave. Amos has said that was because she was interested in rock music and didn't like to read sheet music"
The album as a whole is great; one of the best in the 90's, I think - but there are better songs on it than this one.

This album is one of Tori's finest works.

This exactly.  Gaiman and Amos are my Nineties incarnate.
Yes

Oh damn, how do I not know this song? Heck yeah!
there's something wrong with the album credits, there's no way this was released in 1987.
For mine.....you have truly got it Tory.......................
"if you need me, me and Neil will be hanging out with the Dream King"

I got into Tori Amos and Sandman comics at about the same time, and the synchronicity of that line blew my tiny young mind!
One of the first Tori songs I was introduced to back in the day (along with 'Winter' and 'China'). I was a sucker, instantly.
Never heard this one Not a huge Tori fan but I like this one.
Great song from a great album from a great Artist !
{#Hearteyes}Thanks, Bill!{#Hearteyes}
"Emotionally, all these songs come from experiences that trigger them. I haven't chosen to talk much about that side of the songwriting - the seed for all these songs. On the technical side, I heard the music as a steady motion, no change really from verse and chorus, only the bridge that leads straight back like a loop to the same toll booth where you threw in some change to go around only to end up surrounded by the place you left. The only difference is by taking the loop ride you can see the place you left exactly as it is; some sadness, a whole lotta corn field, and a puddle."

...just - real...

I love this vintage Tori. This song always broke my heart a little.

thank you for making my morning!!
One of my very favorite Tori Amos songs. Loved her first two albums, could handle her third, after that - meh.
She sorta sounds like the Cocteau Twins.

Wailing,,is some thing I can't listen to ! Singing on the other hand,,

Ha... I thought: This is great she came out with a new song that sounds like her old songs. It's been so long since I heard this piece... Thanks for playing! Tori's done some terrific stuff.
Wow... I haven't heard this Tori track in years.  Sometimes music can transport you back in time... Thanks, RadioParadise!

annoyiyoyiyoying.
Blah!  I guess I'll go eat worms (which should be more enjoyable than this song).

Well, I actually am NOT a piano player, although I was pretty sure it was the piano pedal.  I tend to pay alot of attention to tacets, and this one is one of my very favorites.  Sometimes a little silence holds more meaning than all the notes in the world.  So it could be "up"  (up is called "dropped eh?  I never knew that... makes sense) or it could be "down", either way, you KNOW she told them to mic the sound or we'd have never heard it in the final recording.  That album was so full of smart and beautiful... as I say, good stuff.

I always assumed that sound was the pedal being dropped somewhat forcefully so all the dampers hit pretty loudly. It's been a long time since I played piano, so maybe this was just a faulty memory of sounds from childhood piano lessons?

Either way, it's always a great gift to hear more Tori on RP. The rawness of woman+piano in these early recordings (instrument noise and all) is unequalled in later efforts (except perhaps for the very end of Yes, Anastasia on UTP, but that song has yet to make it into the RP catalog).

Love it. More Tori! Anyone who doesn't like her (and Kate Bush) can go eat worms. {#Ass}

Good catch from a piano player.  I would have thought it a bass pedal thump.

...all these years i thought it was a car door shutting, production added to the mix...

Wow. You know that spine-tingling feeling you get when you get when you hear the first chords of a meaningful song you haven't heard in several years? Yep. I've got it. Really great to hear this again.

Congrats on your first add! Good song.

The things you learn on RP!

Oh yeah, you're right.  I neglected the possibility of somebody commenting on it and rating it without it being played.

Listened to this to death back in the early '90s.
Then she started to bore me to tears.
But it's nice to hear this again.
My God.  One of my absolute favorite songs.
"Cutting my hands up every time I touch you."

It was definitely time to say goodbye.

...about as real as it gets...

Listen for the piano pedal being pushed down after "Time to say goodbye now"... good stuff.
