Emily tries but misunderstands
She's often inclined to borrow somebody's dreams
Till tomorrow
There is no other day
Let's try it another way
You'll lose your mind and play
Free games for May
See Emily play
Soon after dark Emily cries
Gazing through trees in sorrow hardly a sound
Till tomorrow
There is no other day
Let's try it another way
You'll lose your mind and play
Free games for May
See Emily play
See Emily play
See Emily play
Emily play, Emily
Put on a gown that touches the ground
Float on a river forever and ever, Emily
There is no other day
Let's try it another way
You'll lose your mind and play

Now HERE was a great group and a fun song!
This song always makes me think of The Nice - Little Arabella.

EXACTLY!
My initial reaction was, "Not in your life, Martha."
Of all the songs to cover, why this one?

Bowie does this one much better ! see Emily play it. see Jane run
Ooooh .... BAD! Big fan of both Martha and Floyd, but this is just a bad cover :(
I think I need another listen, but my snap judgement is thumbs down.

Never heard anyone else cover this, cool! And speaking of covers, the one on this reminds me of the Vargas pin-up gal draped across the hood on that Cars' classic, Candy-O! How incredibly sexy the human body and all it contains or projects can be!
Listen to Bowie's cover from Pinups. That was my intro to the song and to Syd's Pink Floyd.Despite those legs....

I like Martha Wainwright but this is sooooooooo flat comparing with the Floyd original ...

Syd's version is much better. This isn't horrible though.

I agree. With the title it creates a kind of sad an sexy story in one pic. By the way the album is really interesting. By that I don't mean it's-not-good-but-have-to-get-on-the-bandwagon (I'm not a newspaper rock critic), it's just that it develops with each listening and I'm still in the process. And this song fits well in the mood of the album.
Love the album cover.

This song fits perfectly with the album title: not exactly feel-good material, hard to pin down. I like most everything Loudo's kids do, including this.
Well It's pretty good for a cover. Much prefer the original though.
"there is no other day"

This is a travesty.

Syd Barrett wrote this one, that dude was absolultly fucking nuts, there was nothing mainstream about this song. This dude was tripping acid out of his mind when he wrote this.
According to A Saucerful of Secrets: The Pink Floyd Odyssey, by Nicholas Schaffner, Emily is the Honourable Emily Young (b. March 13, 1951), daughter of Wayland Hilton Young, 2nd Baron Kennet, and nicknamed "the psychedelic schoolgirl" at the UFO Club.
During the sessions for the song, David Gilmour was a visitor to the studio, after being invited by Syd. He was shocked by what he perceived as a change in Syd's personality, and Syd did not appear to even recognise his old friend, despite having invited him there in the first place.
Never really liked the original. Always seemed to be a cheesy 60's mainstream attempt. This version was slightly better given Martha's flavour but still nothing to write home about.

I prefer the Pink Floyd version
This actually sounds more creepy than Pink Floyd's, I didn't think that was possible.
huh?
Ho hum
Love the album cover.

The universe of music could easily survive without this crapy cover. A solid -10
Well, that was interesting...
This is really cool, more of a feminine interpretation of this song. Makes me feel like it's a sweet mom singing it of her child whereas the Bowie and Syd Barret versions, while awesome, are just more musical trippy trips. Syd's version's more like his girlfriend's acid trip and Bowie's is more like wistful about a tripped out woman. This version is sweetness instead of psychedelic.
Not my cup of tea.

As somebody else said, the song's all about atmosphere . . . this just ain't quite the same.
Bowie's version on Pinups is waaaay better I'm thinking.
Second time today Bill's played her...

I like Martha and Floyd, but I don't get this cover. Lyrics really aren't the strong point of this song, so there's not much Martha can do with it. For me, it's all in the atmosphere of the PF original.
I agree completely.
At first, I thought "NO WAY! This is a travesty!"
Then, it kind of started working for me. I'm still on the fence about it, but I think I'll give it a chance.

First I thought it was a very rare Kate Bush Cover of Pink Floyd...
Pretty ok version.

I am digging it so far. Not much of a departure from the original really, but not bad... love me some early Pink Floyd any way i can get it.
...nice selection!..
