Lyrics:

How high's the water, mama?
Two feet high and risin'
How high's the water, papa?
She said it's two feet high and risin'

Well, we can make it to the road in a homemade boat
'Cause that's the only thing we got left that'll float
It's already over all the wheat and oats
Two feet high and risin'

How high's the water, mama?
Three feet high and risin'
How high's the water, papa?
She said it's three feet high and risin'

Well, the hives are gone, I lost my bees
Chickens are sleepin' in the willow trees
Cow's in water up past her knees
Three feet high and risin'

How high's the water, mama?
Four feet high and risin'
How high's the water, papa?
She said it's four feet high and risin'

Hey, come look through the window pane
The bus is coming, gonna take us to the train
Looks like we'll be blessed with a little more rain
Four feet high and risin'

How high's the water, mama?
Five feet high and risin'
How high's the water, papa?
She said it's five feet high and risin'

Well, the rails are washed out north of town
We got to head for higher ground
We can't come back till the water goes down
Five feet high and risin'

Well, it's five feet high and risin'
GREAT!!

Johnny Cash And Biff Sing - Five Feet High, Live

In this clip, Johnny Cash sings his classic song with Biff.

Would this be categorised as blues or western? I think it's more blues.
Long enough after the mess so we can be a little lighthearted about it I think. I sure hope Nollins manages to keep its soul after the corporations are done "rebuilding" it into a mass of condos and casinos or something. That town had more soul than any fifteen other US cities put together. Except maybe Chicago. Heh. That's a marvelous photo of Johnny too.

Thank you for the memory of Johnny Cash, and at an appropriate time in context with Katrina. What a storyteller; how many children were asking this question in NO?
And now with Rita. Too many people with this very thought on their minds.

Wow, this was on one of the few record albums my parents had, so I grew up with this playing in the house (back when it was new). Another good call, Bill.
