One two one two three four

She gets the sun in the daytime
Perfume in the dusk
And she come out in the night time
With the honeysuckle musk
Because she smells like a rose
And she tastes just like a peach
She got me walking where the wildlife goes
I'd do anything to reach her

And she was made in heaven
Heaven's in the world
Oh she was made in heaven
Heaven's in the world
Is this just expresso love
You know I'm crazy for the girl
Just a-crazy for the girl

Yeah she call me just to talk
Well she's my lover she's a friend of mine
Says hey mister d'you wanna take a walk
In the wild west end sometime
And I get trouble with my breathing
When she says boys don't know anything
But I know what I want (I want 'o tell you something)
Yes I want everything

Cos she was made in heaven
And heaven's in the world
Oh she was made in heaven
Yes heaven's in the world
Is this just expresso love
See I'm crazy for the girl
Just a-crazy for the girl

Yeah you know I feel so good cos I feel so good
And I feel so good cos it feels so right
I was made to go with my girl
Just like a saxophone was made to go with the night

Take it take it

She can raise one eyebrow
Put her hand on my hip
And I close one eye now
Sweat on her lip oh
Oh and I surrender to the fever
And I surrender to the will of the night
She love me so tender I got to believe her
Love? Huh! Expresso love's alright

Cos she was made in heaven
Heaven's in the world
Oh she was made in heaven
Heaven's in the world
Is this expresso love
You know I'm crazy for the girl
Just a-crazy for the girl

My my my my

No well I don't want no sugar in it
No thank you very very very
All wired up on it all fired up on it
Expresso touch
Hey maestro expresso now
Hey maestro she said expresso now
It's just another one just like the other one
It's just another one just like the other other one
Oh hey maestro expresso now
I say hey maestro expresso now
Just like the other one

This is a nice and unexpected coincidence, I just made myself an espresso after many months of abstinence - I sat down in front of my desktop and... and this song.
This is just one of those songs that when it ends… You wish it would keep playing!
Love Mark Knophler's guitar work. Master of the hammer-on.

I Agree!
When this lp first came out I lived in Rehoboth Beach, De. I worked at a restaurant in Dewey Beach, The Rusty Rudder. I worked with some hard partiers. On many nights we wound up, after the bars closed, at a friends house that had the best stereo system All top of the line, turntable, receiver but especially the speakers! They were 2' square and about 6' tall. When he put on "Making Movies" on he put it to "10"! It would run all of us out of the room, but he did it almost every night we went over and he just grinned ear to ear and bounced around.  It was the off season so noise complaints were there, but not as numerous if he did it in the summer. What a great album, it brings back many great memories'.

A 10 for me, not just because everything works flawlessly and it is endlessly relistenable, but for the devastatingly accurate lyricism of:

She says boys don't know anything

But I know what I want

Yes I want everything

A universal language is great conceptually, but it opens all sorts of trouble.

By my reckoning there are currently three universal languages:  Math, Music (also very mathematical) and dance, which really requires music.   HOORAY Science!

I love the use of Chinese Peppered in to the Joss Whedon show/film Firefly/Serenity.  it shows that even in the far future the Chinese have significant cultural impact.

The question now should be do you have your kids take Mandarin or Cantonese in school?

Great example of a powerful song (should be #1 hit) that never made it "up the charts."  That's a good reason why I listen here.

I think 'expresso' used here is Italian, as in driving down the 'expresso' (and loving it)!

Mr. Knopfler rules! I could watch him play all day. Learned everything I needed to know about Ray Kroc listening to Boom! Like That.
Man, this still sizzles, doesn't it? The growling guitars, the almost Springsteen-like piano and tempo, and his impassioned vocals; wow!
Mark doesn't need to steal from anyone, but sure sounds like Layla in the beginning.
I still say that Alchemy's versions are better. This is simpler, cleaner, and indeed a pleasure to hear once in a while, but I prefer the unleashed energy of the concert.
What's always amazed me about this album is how the addition of another musician, in this case the inestimable Roy Bittan on piano, actually created more room for Knopfler's guitar wizardry.

seems like an unrelated point since neither artist can be honestly considered a '70's artist'  ... I would have to agree that a fan of Dylan's performances should be much more tolerent of 'bad' voices
Nice!
Not my favorite one but still a very good song from this great great great GREAT band.

Hypocrite. You've given Bob Dylan solid "9" marks, and he can't sing, either, and Knopfler plays circles around him on the guitar.

Still, I agree, to a point - Knopfler has a rather one-dimensional voice, but I think it's sexy - as opposed to Dylan's gravelly, off-key vocals which more often than not miss the mark.  And Knopfler has written a soundtrack or two (check out "Local Hero" - there are some absolutely ethereal instrumentals on that CD, and the actual movie is a delight, too.)

But let's not get into a pissing contest. Singing is not the only thing that makes a song good, right? {#Daisy}

I can't believe how many posters think Dire Straits were lacking originality.  Perhaps you had to be alive in the late 70's, but I recall first hearing Sultans of Swing, and being totally blown away by its originality.  This is a first rate band and this is arguably their best album/CD.  It helps immeasurably to have a particular significant other that you can relate many of the songs to.  Goodtimes!

Pros: Could write another 100 songs just as good as this one.
Cons: He has.
This was a fantastic album.  Fave tracks were 'Tunnel of Love' and 'Romeo and Juliet'.
