Still wonderful.
Cool song. Melancholic and hopeful.
I LOVE her voice. Drunkard's Prayer is an amazing lp. All the songs are great. I would love to see them live.
with tunes like this, WE should be getting donations!
What Lucinda Williams are YOU listening too?? meadowwoods wrote:
sorry..she sounds too much like Lucinda Williams..
I love Over the Rhine, but I'm so weary of this song.

That's a great CD. This one is worth picking up too, if you don't already have it.

shit here we go again! where's my ACDC!

I'm sad that they used so many effects on her Karin's wonderful voice.
What all effects are you refering to? I hear some vocal over-dubbing (doubling), but nothing overly done. It's pretty straight, I think. Love the tune.

So what's the problem?
when i hear this song, i know deep down inside that i should hate it, yet...this is gonna hurt...i...lll... like it! Owwwwwch!

OTR is ridiculously popular in Ohio, especially, it seems, in southern Ohio. I guess that would make sense, since they're from Cincy.
Yep. They took their name from the neighborhood just north of downtown called Over the Rhine. I'm not sure what the most euphamistic term to describe the area would be, but it's not a very good neighborhood. Saw them countless times at Bogarts and have a very clear memory of them at Jammin' on Main (any other Cincinnatians out there?). The years have definetly been kind to them musically -- very enjoyable.

i think it is too late now... way overplayed...

Agreed. I bought this album thanks to RP and have really enjoyed it!

I'll agree that it's not quite a good as Ohio, but that was an utterly brilliant CD. "Pretty good" OTR, is heads above 99% of everything else.

This song wishes it was The Wailin' Jennys' 'Arlington'.

Agree with a previous comment, good tunes for autumn. This is a nice album to light some candles to and drink a nice bottle of wine, or a good couple whiskeys, (whatever you like!)
Until I got on the website, I thought it was a mellow Lucinda Williams. I find it quite likeable - but I like Lucinda a lot.
Bittersweet beauty. I'm in love with Karen's voice.

...grew on me as I read about them on the AMG site . I like the intimate transparent feel. - recorded in their living room apparently.
A heart becomes painful. I am sad.....I am good to listen in autumn.
Must check out more from this band. I like their other tunes on the playlist as well.

Fair enough. But I've only heard it.. let's see... about three times, and the song grows on me! Really nice, especially early in the morning. You probably listen to RP more than me. :)

through her tears without fear I like how she emotes.
Thinking of drilling out my eardrums when this crapper comes on. Did it just fade out early? Could deal with it not starting at all. Would go below 1 if I could!
yea, a tad monotonous, but I find it just so... damn... NICE! Reminds me of Aimee Mann's Save Me a bit.

god, someone put this woman out of her misery. everyone loves a downer!
Really surprised to see the hatred for this song (well, four of the posts are from one person, but nevertheless)...I think it's nice.
wow revsully, that's some passion. i understand what you mean though, not about this song, I don't mind it, i think they have some better ones, but I understand the reflex and I sympathize, but I think we've heard your take on this now...

You are generous. 4 is "Acceptable". This song is unacceptably monotonous. A 2.

I really don't mean to be nasty... But, honestly, I do actually feel a touch of nausea when those first chords play. And then I shut it off. I'm just afraid that one day, I won't be quick enough and I'll vomit on my keyboard... and that might not go over so well... even in my laid-back work environment.

What is wrong with you people? You must be sick! PLEASE! For the love of all you hold sacred — STOP THE MADNESS! Stop playing this aweful, aweful song! I really enjoy most everything else you play.... and I understand I'm not the only listener.... ... but this song is just SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO BAAAAAAAAAAAAAD! Thanks for listening.
Not inspiring, but a nice mellow listen. The verse chords and melody remind me of CSNY's "Helplessly Hoping".
Bliss.
Just love it... Lightens up my day... :sunny.gif:
Dear God! This song makes me want to bathe with a toaster. We often listen to Radio Paradise at work because it's always a crowd pleaser. Whenever this song comes on, I hear things like "it's the torture song" and "can't you hit fast forward?" I hate it so much that I just registered as a user to tell you so. Otherwise... keep up the good work!
perhaps a little research is in order before the comment, ask many of the current artists and see how many list karen as an influence, you can hear it in so many!!! Over The Rhine is one of the most prolific, consistently relevant, moving bands ever! Give them a chance, look into their body of work over the past 16 years and see what you come up with. radiojunkie wrote:

Great tune! Play it again Sam....er...I mean Bill.

Except that she's been singing for quite a while (1989). So you can argue that most of those 300 singers lifted their vocals from her.

of course, one could say that for pretty much *any* song that has been recorded in the past couple of years... but hey, if the song is good why get uppity? How many times have we heard covers that were just as good (and yet pleasantly different) if not better than the originals?

Somewhere in the back of my head, Chris Martin from Coldplay is singing..."Green eyes..."

Yes, Linford and Karin have done it again - a very warm, deep, intimate album that just begs to be listened to over & over. How are they playing small clubs while "Mimi" Carey is living the surreal life? There's truly no justice in this world, my friends.
Wow. OtR just keeps producing great music. MT
