What evidence do you have in support of that position? Yeah, that's what I thought. The man exudes integrity. As for this song, and your complaints about it, artists often channel what they perceive to be the thoughts and voices of others. That is what art is all about --conveying message and emotion.

This is Bruce's latest? It sounds a lot like his oldest. I'm not complaining.
I am glad Bill played Rosalita this morning. Sometimes I need reminded that Bruce can rock (or at least could). I do like this song though.
Since Bruce's return with The Rising I've been monstrously impressed with his work. Not since Nebraska have I heard such depth and investment in his craft. If you fell away from Bruce in the 80's, it might be time to give him another chance.

I'd only add that I bet most of us would not withstand the same scrutiny of our personal lives, motives, values, etc. I have never had doubts about Bruce Springsteen's integrity. Never.

No..."sup wit dat" is just included for goofiness factor. And I suppose I wouldn't quite know whether it was an Asbury Parkism anyway, since I didn't grow up there...it was quite dodgy when I was a kid, and even up until a few years ago... But good point about Fogerty...

Bruce does get old fast.
I like Bruce but his later stuff stinks and this song is no exception. This song is crap-ola. It's suppose to have an anti war message in it? Ok, where is it? The song is Boooooooring, and lacks real spirit and says nothing.
This reminds me of the excellent (and underrated) "The Ghost of Tom Joad" album. It's a good song and I look forward to hearing the new album...
I have a friend who hates Springsteen with a passion, and I still can't understand why. She seems to share the same sentiments of those below -- thinking he's some kind of "poseur" making believe he's a working-class guy when he's really a rich rock star. Yet it's common knowledge that he's really committed himself to a number of causes, and doesn't just pay them lip service. The guy has obviously always poured his entire being into his performances -- you have to mop his sweat off the floor. So why this vitriolic attitude toward him and not toward all the other obvious phonies out there? Beats me. I guess it's true, no good deed goes unpunished...

The people with beefs about this track probably don't know anything about Springsteen or any of his songs that weren't on the Greatest Hits Album. i am not a BRUCE fan (never was), but he has made some great music. some i can do without, but some is most awesome!!!! give credit where it is due. and its possible it ain't true about his mansions etc.....he owns an organic farm in NJ, helps out in asbury park and a local theatre near his town. don't kid yourself about where mick jagger, bob dylan, joni mitchell, eric clapton, george harrsion and the like live. not in a 2 bedroom home please!!!!!!!!

Am really looking forward to this album. Nebraska and Ghost of Tom Joad were the only Springsteen albums that did anything for me since Darkness.
Ok, I heard this was some new "anti war" anthem Bruce created...but I don't get it at all. Bruce is a superb talent no doubt but this is weak, and what the hell is it about? Someone explain this awful song to me.
I start it out as a 7. Need to hear it a few more times to judge if it's any better than that. Springsteen is one of the few who does both ends of the rock/folk spectrum well.
It's OK. I'll take Jungleland and Born To Run.
