Tidal waves don't beg forgiveness, crashed and on their way
Father he enjoyed collisions, others walked away
A snowflake falls in may

And the doors are open now as the bells are ringing out
'Cause the man of the hour is taking his final bow, goodbye for now

Nature has its own religion, gospel from the land
Father ruled by long division, young men they pretend
Old men comprehend.

And the sky breaks at dawn, shedding light upon this town, they'll all come 'round
Cause the man of the hour is taking his final bow, goodye for now

And the road the old man paved
The broken seams along the way
The rusted signs, left just for me
He was guiding me, Love, his own way

Now the man of the hour is taking his final bow
As the curtain comes down I feel that this is just goodbye for now

You look around at the state of things these days and ain't it funny?  Isn't it a giggle?  This song could be a background score to all the hurricanes, the politics, the global wars and nuttiness that is our existence today.
Meh...

Pretty good movie. RP intorduced it to me years ago after it came out

Another movie with a good sound track; “Reign On Me” breaks me up with every viewing.
Excellent Tune!  But, not one of their best.

Relax, man; there's not a conspiracy afoot.  "Guantanamera" gets a squiggly red line because it is not an English word or a geographical word.  Roughly translated it means a female from the Guantanamo area of Cuba.

I always thought a Guantanamera was a 2000 lb. Italian female horse.
I had never heard of the movie Big Fish until I heard this song on RP.  I immediately watched it, then watched it again.  Great movie, great song.  Thanks RP!!

Thanks, I gathered that. The point I was trying to make is that if you type in La Jagua, or Cainamera or Boqueron, other small places in Cuba, you're getting the squiggles. So Guantanamo is not getting it probably as it became notorious for the reasons we all know about. Unless widely known and identified as such by the spell checker, geographical names will get the squiggles :-)
And what prompted my comment was just the collision (and collisions are good sometimes) between what I was feeling about "Guantanamera" and the suggestion offered to replace it. I wasn't implying there was any intention underlying this. Just highlighting the fact that I thought the world might be a better place with Guantanamera being more well-known than Guantanamo.

And on a more personal note, it's nice chatting with you as I quite enjoy reading your comments and witty replies :-)

Funny, educational and humble posts you two!  Good job guys (hey now....I tried to type 'gals' but a squiggly red line came up....)
I'm gonna go 7 to 8 on this....based mostly on the strength of the movie....Long Live RP!!

What's reality at the end of the day? The stories were all true even though unreal!
Yep, kind of film that has your chin trembling a bit, a mist in your eyes. I notice that this is getting worse (or better?) as I'm watching some of these films with my kids.
The same thing happened (misty eyes and wobbly chin) the other day when I put Pete Seeger's Guantanamera on for them to listen to.
Weird isn't it?
P.S. What a F**ed up world we're living in!! The spellchecker has the squiggly red line for Guantanamera, and when right-clicking, it suggests "Guantanamo"!! Just horrible!!

I'm loving Pearl Jam more with every song I discover.  This one has me in tears... When I die, I don't want a funeral. Cremate me, scatter my ashes in Lamoille Canyon and save a handful to plant with a new garden that must be maintained (although if I'm dead, I won't know whether a garden ever got planted, so I'm counting a lot on trust here.)

This stupid song prompted me to confront my brother with what to do with our parents' ashes (yes, we still have them.)  After much discussion, we decided that the rest of the family (a sister, a niece, a nephew) won't give a rat's spats what we do with the ashes because they each got their little half-a-cup full of ash to do with what they wanted. (Gruesome and creepy, really.)

So - bro and I decided that once the growing season is over and stuff is due to be cut back, we'll rototill the garden area, plant our parents' ashes (sans containers) in a special place in the garden, and then have a stepping-stone to mark the place. If their ashes enhance the soil, great. If they don't, it's still good, because Mom and Dad lived in this house for over 40 years, so it's their ground. They should be laid to rest where they were most at home - at home.

I hate Pearl Jam for making me go into this before I was ready.... I love Pearl Jam for the same reason.

Thank you Cynaera,
I like Pearl Jam covers because they are generally good songs untarnished by Eddie Vedder groaning all over them.
I dig the marbles in the mouth sound of the singer.   But some how he reminds me of the guy at the other end of a Mcdonalds burger drive through speaker.Muffeled mumbled nearly incomprehensible

According to this obituary Cynaera (Ann) suffered from a subdural hematoma. There's a forum thread dedicated to her.

Even though I didn't know her in person, her comments really seemed to convey her personality. To see them being bumped up makes me think that the internet creates some kind of immortality. I think it's great as long as you're remembered for the right reasons.

Never mind the cremation, which is an awful waste of energy and materials. Just stick my body into a cardboard coffin and plant a tree on top. Might as well recycle valuable nutrients and put a little something back.

Absolutely not! Many cultures hold that making friends with the fact of your death is essential to embracing life. Sounds healthy to me. Leo Kottke's Pink Christmas is on my memento mori list. Just caught PJ at Jazzfest, but always been pretty underwhelmed - and this was no exception.

I just watched this film and hearing this song at the end was so perfect.  What a voice he has.

Of course,  this is a Pearl Jam song, with the whole band joining in and playing, in the same style to be found throughout their work.  Side by side with their hard and fast rocking are their slow and easy songs, so well chronicled i the "down" side of their greatest hits LP.

Check it out people who like Eddie but not the band.

Usually I like PJ, but at times like this I wonder who told Eddie he could sing. I'd love to punch that person in the nose. Maybe Eddie too... Big Fish was a beautiful movie!
What a great unappreciated movie! Back to Pearl Jam, not a bad song for them...nice segue from BRMC

And I hope I succeeded in fathering a daughter with this much talent to express it so well.
I don't like Pearl Jam, but this is a great song! and a great movie!
I dig it the most.

Great movie. I don't remember this song in it, but can imagine that it would be more fitting in the movie than here at my desk at work.

So I just map.google'd Paradise CA... hmmm. Right along the 5 in the middle of the state... doesn't that mean desert? Well anyway, I guess I'll have to wait until it's light to see the webcam shot. All I know is that when you drive the 5 from LA to San Fran... it's anything but paradise. hehe
I got my degree in computer operating systems at CSU Chico just down the hill from Paradise. One of America's first great microbreweries, Sierra Nevada Pale Ale, started in Paradise. It's a beautiful place with snowy winters and pine trees in the foothills of the mountain range. Paradise is in Butte county, which makes it a spectacular drive up the mountain with all those flat bluffs. (a butte is a flat-topped mountain).
always enjoy hearing this song.

Ok, wake up, I'm Rover. ;-) Hard to get excited about this one. For obvious reasons.

Wow! I'm in general not a Pearl Jam fan, but this one is realy good. Very very enjoyable. This (again) proves that it is worth listening to every song of any group before blindly rating it - high or low. I'm unexpectedly impressed.
