Doesn't this sound like Angel by Massive Attack? Or vice versa.
Now you say it yeah it does
I'm a big BRMC fan, learned of them on RP. Recently attended one of their shows and I was really disappointed... crushed, in fact. While it was fun to finally see them and experience their live raw energy, it was maybe the loudest concert I've ever been to. So loud that it was hard to hear the music, much less hear the vocals or even discern the individual instruments. A lot of people left early, way early.
I had the exact same experience.
I saw The Call in Sacramento somewhere in the late 80's. I was totally blitzed, but I don't remember it being that loud.

Long time Call fan here having caught many shows on East Coast and in their prime Santa Cruz stomping grounds. They were loud when they needed to be, but the 1812 Overture episode was a totally unique and historic case. I know that Michael is proud of Robert.

Reminds me of a Zappa song.
I hear that!
Reminds me of a Zappa song.
Still reminds me of some of Frank Zappa's guitar licks.
They get that naturally. Worked as a stagehand at a small venue in Louisville when Robert's Dad's Band, The Call came through on the MTV New Music tour when they were promoting Reconciled. They used a somewhat infamous recording of Tchaikovsky's "1812 Overture" by Telarc records (had a warning about how loud it got played as it could damage stereo equipment) to test the PA with. When the cannons kick in there's one blast where you hear a rumbling noise at about 100Hz. That's the crack of the cannon, not the blast itself. The blast was at 6Hz. Obviously didn't hear that blast, just felt a small gust of wind blow through the place. Moments later the University's Physical Plant and Public Safety came screaming in wondering what the hell set off the quick brownout that hit a good part of campus. And yes, they used that PA to nearly those levels most the night.
Seems to be MTV enjoyed making ears bleed in the 80's. Also worked Living Colour's Vivid tour stop and the telarc headphones we used on the spots were absolutely useless for all the noise.

Sorry, but for me the Smithereens are not even in the same ballpark as BRMC. My guess is BRMC would be insulted if someone said that!

They are levels above the Smithereens
RP running in the background. Had to check and see if it was something I didn't know by Love and Rockets
ALWAYS take ear plugs. You can still hear the show, just without the pain.
I would have been deaf by the age of 18 if I didn't.

Now aim a little higher, Poacher!

Dino Stamatopoulos as "Starburns", a minor character in the critically acclaimed but little-watched show, "Community."
Top hat is optional. Pet lizard is not.
Super kcar!!!

I agree...I had to look to see who this was. Most times BRMC is sort of ho-hum (to me at least).
This is the first time I've heard this and the same reference came to mind. This is actually the first song from BRMC I like.
me three.

Link to Amazon from RP > bought this cd for 93p > I win!

Red eyes and tears no more for you my love I kill
No more kill, no more kill, I'm in love
The frontman for BRMC (Robert Levon Been) is the son of Michael Been. He tours with them as their sound engineer,
You may remember him from the group "The Call". They had hits in the 80's such as - Everywhere I Go, I Still Believe, & Let the Day Begin.
