One is the loneliest number that you'll ever do
Two can be as bad as one
It's the loneliest number since the number one
"No" is the saddest experience you'll ever know
Yes, it's the saddest experience you'll ever know
Because one is the loneliest number that you'll ever do
One is the loneliest number that you'll ever know
It's just no good anymore since you went away
Now I spend my time just making rhymes of yesterday
Because one is the loneliest number that you'll ever do
One is the loneliest number that you'll ever know
One is the loneliest number
One is the loneliest number
One is the loneliest number that you'll ever do
One is the loneliest number, much much worse than two
One is the number divided by two
(repeat)

this was an awesome movie. her songs in it were perfect.
It's one of the best albums ever. Aimee Mann has a wonderful voice and it suits so well with the music she is performing...Save me was the first track I heard from her and since that I have loved her creation.
And I love the fact that Bill is playing her music every day :)
Actaully this version first appeared on a Nilsson tribute album, at least five years ago, Nilssen Schmilshen, (forgive spelling) that featured a wide range of artists giving a different spin to some of his hits/misses.
BIG Aimee fan here. Her version's OK.
The original, IMHO, is second only to "Benny the Whale" in awfulness.

Lost In Space is brilliant...
Yeah, Dr. Smith MADE that show, I say. Screw the robot.
STEAL THIS SONG!
The Magnolia soundtrack is a terrific effort by Aimee and Lost in Space is an excellent continuation. The Magnolia stuff had to be low and melancholic, but the LIS album provides for more introspection rather than depression. Good stuff!

it sucked the first time around (3 dog night) and still sucks.
1st time around was Harry Nilsson, actually.
And it was great, thank you very much. :P
Maybe because the director of the movie has a thing for Aimee Mann (do you suppose Michael Penn knows? I wouldn't mess with the Penn brothers...) and was inspired by her music to create Magnolia. At least that's what it says in the liner notes of the soundtrack. Magnolia (and bachelor no.2) changed my life...not very many movies have struck such a chord.

It sounds like she's trying to sound "melancholoy".
But she comes off sounding bored, and now so am I.
My first Sucko-Barfo rating.

Aimee's version of this will always be associated in my mind with "Magnolia" in which her songs play the role of a Greek chorus commenting on the action. Fans of this fine singer/songwriter should check out the film.
loved the movie. love the soundtrack.

Incredible artist and has come so far from the 'Til Tuesday scene.
Very Cool hearing her on RP!!
She came a long way DURING her Til Tuesday scene. Just listen to anything from their 2nd and 3rd albums. Despite what a lot of people say here, Aimee is a great songwriter AND singer. Lost In Space is brilliant, as is Bachelor No 2. Aimee, you go girl.

It helps when the meaningful something came from somewhere else, i.e. performed by Three Dog Night, and written by Harry Nilsson (remember him?). Still, a very good interpratation.

Nice to be reminded of Three Dog Night. Where ever did they go? Will have to check out Magnolia again just to listen to the sound track.
How about a set completely of interesting covers?
Was totally blown over by the movie. The song, and others from the soundtrack fit great with it. Dont think I would have liked the song as much if it were not for the movie though...
This is a great version of this song and it fits the movie perfectly.

I wonder however if this fit the movie - my memory is that it did although it's been quite awhile. Sometimes songs from soundtracks don't stand alone as well.Originally Posted by htrdlincoln:

Why Bill?
Incredible artist and has come so far from the \'Til Tuesday scene.
Very Cool hearing her on RP!!
The entire Magnolia Soundtrack (most of which is Aimee Mann\'s work) is quite exceptional. I hope to hear more tracks off of it on RP!
it sucked the first time around (3 dog night) and still sucks.
I\'ma Aimee Mann fan, man. I like her laid back voice and her songwriting. This is a good song, which I have never heard covered before.
I LOVE Aimee Mann, but whoa! This isn't up to standards!
