And you, you will be queen
Though nothing will drive them away
We can beat them just for one day
We can be heroes just for one day
And you, you can be mean
And I, I'll drink all the time
'Cause we're lovers, and that is a fact
Yes we're lovers, and that is that
Though nothing will keep us together
We could steal time just for one day
We can be heroes forever and ever
What'd you say?
I, I wish you could swim
Like the dolphins, like dolphins can swim
Though nothing, nothing will keep us together
We can beat them forever and ever
Oh we can be heroes just for one day
I, I will be king
And you, you will be queen
Though nothing will drive them away
We can be heroes just for one day
We can be us just for one day
I, I can remember ''(I remember)''
Standing by the wall ''(by the wall)''
And the guns shot above our heads ''(over our heads)''
And we kissed as though nothing could fall ''(nothing could fall)''
And the shame was on the other side
Oh, we can beat them forever and ever
Then we could be heroes just for one day
We can be heroes
We can be heroes
We can be heroes
Just for one day
We can be heroes
We're nothing and nothing will help us
Maybe we're lying, then you better not stay
But we could be safer just for one day
Oh-oh-oh-ohh
Oh-oh-oh-ohh
Just for one day
Wow - I didn't think Bowie could make this song any better, and then I hear this. Love it!
Not better without the tension of Fripp guitar, in my opinion.
For me, this is better than the original. Superb
Both versions are superb I would say!

I love the smooth bass backing this. The best bass players are subtle, strong, and breath life into a song without all the flash of a lead.
As they say: Amen to that 🙏
A day without listening to some Bowie is not a good day in my book. Thanks Bill.
...Gail Ann Dorsey is playing bass and singing backup. Thanks RP!
First listen - this was an easy 8 for me until Gail came in singing.
Even easier 9 now.

I was just listening to the bass line in this. scrolling through the comments, thinking this exact thought...the playing here is sublime...thanks for hearing it as well...
Great segue Bill. A Neil Young song to this one from the Bridge School Concerts. Pegi Young with the help of her husband Neil raised money for this very special school and put together some incredible shows!
I wasn't sure where I was when I heard the intro, am I wirh Neil, am I at Bridge?
Make it a 10!
It's teetering on that, I have only handed out 71 10's out of 1700 some odd votes (4% of my ratings)
btw thank you Bill & Rebecca for playing this on main for first time in a while, a forgotten classic for sure.
I forgot how cool this is, really digging the "My Favorites" feature I decided to try out. I have this at a well deserved 9. Spin it up Bill & Rebecca!
Make it a 10!
Now perhaps play the Motorhead version (on the album Motorizer) by way of contrast.
Agree, made me stop what I was doing and look this up. 8.
I was unaware .... Thanks
from Wiki:
>>>Mick Ronson died of liver cancer on 29 April 1993 at the age of 46. In his memory, the Mick Ronson Memorial Stage was constructed in Queens Gardens in his hometown of Hull. There is also a street named after him on Bilton Grange Estate, not far from where he lived.
I get a weird mental picture of David Bowie as a snake charmer, with some guy lying on the ground in front of him, and the guy's lower intestine swaying out of his stomach to the music.

Unfortunately, Mick checked out before the '96 Bridge School concerts.
