I know so many people
Who think they can do it alone
They isolate their heads
And stay in the safety zone

But what can you tell them?
What can you say that won't make them defensive?
So...

Hang on to your ego
Hang on, but I know that you're gonna lose the fight

They come on like they're peaceful
But inside they're so uptight
They trip through the day
And waste all their thoughts at night

But how can I say it?
How can I come on when I know I'm guilty?
So...

Hang on to your ego
Hang on, but I know that you're gonna lose the fight

And how can I say it?
How can I come on when I know I'm guilty?

Hang on to your ego
Hang on, but I know that you're gonna lose the fight
Hang on to your ego
Hang on, but I know that you're gonna lose the fight
Hang on to your ego
Hang on, but I know that you're gonna lose the fight

I think I saw an eagle the other day, out on Embaught Rd., but it wouldn't come over, land on my shoulder and introduce itself, so I couldn't hang on to it.
Hang on to y0ur eagle.  My words exactly.
Demoted.

He basically introduces the band, stands there clicking his fingers slightly out of kilter and lets them carry the load.

brian wilson, like most recording artists, like the royalty income more than some critique.

if we had the actual cd insert we could read the credits...those days are gone.
Wonderful cover of a fantastic song.

One of the great albums of the 60's if not all time Pet Sounds - Get it in mono and listen on headphones the way Brian intended.

Pet Shop Sounds Beach Boys

'90s thump thump dancin with verve.
Freakin' great.  I was just listening to the 6-disk Beach Boys box.  Heckuva companion piece.

Once I stopped chuckling, I began to wonder the same thing.  You suppose he's flattered?
One of my favorite songs by one of my favorite artists!!  Awesome!!

Trivia (which most of you probably already know): "Hang on to Your Ego" was Wilson's ironic version of "I Know There's an Answer". He was ultimately persuaded (or maybe decided, I forget which) that the latter was the more "general public-friendly" choice for inclusion on Pet Sounds.  I prefer the former.  And this version rocks.  : )

leggo my ego...
What does Brian Wilson think about this, I wonder?
This was one of the first Frank Black songs I ever heard (and liked). Glad to see it pop up on RP!
Ain't no Pixies, that's for sure ;-)  Great cover, though.
Beach Boys !

I remember being shocked to learn that this is a Brian Wilson song. Nice to hear after all these years.
