I love and worship how this song comes in as if they've already had it going, the groove, the mind-blowing yet simple harmonics, the rhythm changes, the cross-currents, the satisfying fuzz -- it's just freakin' brilliant!

If you can't hear a groove in Everything In It's Right Place, There There or Jigsaw Falling Into Place (or a melody in Karma Police or Fake Plastic Trees) then you need your ears checked.

Ok Computer, Amnesiac and Kid A. I spent months listening to these albums on a minidisc player while travelling to and from work on an hour+ long bus/train commute in Switzerland.

Having already a masterpiece as OK computer it was difficult to imagine
something even better... until then they produced this one.

Last night, I watched the 50+ minute video of the live studio recording of "rainbow from the basement".
Wow. These guys are quite impressive.
Man! What an amazing track! 
For me it is The Bendz, OK Computer and KID A. Three sublime albums in a row, peaking with the disturbing, creative weirdness of KID A. Nothing after that comes close.
He's still whining - I just can't get past that thin, querulous, out-of-tune noise he makes with his mouth. I get that that's his gimmick - it just doesn't work for me.
Any tune that the first time you hear it, you are obsessed with it and can't get it out of your head is a 10.

There should be In Limbo follow-up to Optimistic. It's just such a great transition it almost feels like one song to me.
I understand the naysayers. It took almost 10 years and repeated listens to 'get' RH. Something clicked for me with IN RAINBOWS and now I just can't get enough! My kids can tell when RP is playing RH.... the volume gets turned way up and the house starts resonating.

Nothing against RP, it's a daily epiphany, and many of you guys like RH, have a blast. But for all the reasons anti-RH'ers cite, plus unintelligible lyrics and an aversion to optimism, they are in the pantheon of my almost-auto PSD, with Arcade Misfire, The Mehembrists, and a handful of others (which usually has more to do with having heard a particular track too many times after years of listening).

I'm right there with ya'. I love, or at least like, all that you mentioned. However, Roy I can do without given his voice does not work for me at all (as Thom's does not for you). Yes - I agree Roy has a much better voice technically, but too high pitch for my taste. As far as your musical complaints....RH are brilliant musicians technically (period. I would say), and I get the "drone" of his voice is not for everyone. Regardless, the emotional and in many cases Spiritual hook of their music (for me at least) is very powerful. There is a reason so many other bands admire RH too. Peace out....

See a pattern? Very wide musical taste - and RH offends all of them, except for a few riffs and hooks that quickly vanish under Yorke's dreadful voice and pointless arrangement.

Ive never understood the yanks fascination with English teeth. is it genetic? my old house was older than the US and so many americans are decended from here (UK) so there cannot be that much difference. is it just bad care? there was a time where all dental treatment was free, but most people pay something now. maybe thats it. we dont have meth here so no meth mouth. whole album, dissonant, full of crunch and smooth, unsettling and just unlike anything before or after. Radiohead is said to have had a hard time writing and recording it, Thom having a breakdown after. I think it shows. Go and listen to OK Computer first, which is a more accessible album. (Do we even say "album" anymore? You know what I mean...)
Kid A makes more sense if you listen to it as a follow-up to OK Computer. From what I understand, Kid A was a deliberate departure from the more radio friendly rock sound of OK Computer. Hence more minimalistic and muddy arrangements, fewer pop hooks, more experimentation with electronic sounds. Like Radiohead or not, they are one of the few bands to achieve mainstream success that continue to push and evolve their sound rather than rehashing the same musical tropes album after album.

Too many people dislike bands because of their pretentious fans, sometimes subconsciously. If I did that, I would dislike alot of artists I listen to.
I'm not saying that you are one of those people, but it seems like alot of the people who dislike Radiohead is because of their fans, or the members' personalities. Just listen to the music, ignore everything else.
I have listened to the music, and for the most part it drives me up the wall. All the pretentious Radiohead fans do is aggravate the situation.

Too many people dislike bands because of their pretentious fans, sometimes subconsciously. If I did that, I would dislike alot of artists I listen to.

For me, this song is incredibly powerful and moving. It articulates something I could never manage to express. It's cathartic.

Another awesome song from Radiohead brought to my attention by RP! My first thought was that this was Sonic Youth, until the vocals kicked in.
After a great song writing string; this was their last good song

I've usually been quite complimentary about Radiohead's instrumentals and very rude about Thom Yorke, whose voice makes me want to give him the wet fish around the chops treatment. However, my respect for him's increased a tad after skimming the Wikipedia entry on him (click here). I don't like his voice any more, but he seems an interesting, intelligent and decent guy.

I personally think that this album, along with OK Computer and ...yeah, pretty much all their stuff....will be regarded much the way boomers regard Pink Floyd. And the similarities/reference to Syd Barrett's mental illness is absolutely intended (radiohead being a term to describe schizophrenic noise), as well as their style and inventiveness.

You have a point. Radiohead's a tight band and their music can catchy and haunting at the same time. But Thom's quavering style is a one-trick pony.
Personally, I think he's a musical and artistic genius. This was confirmed in my mind when I saw him perform during the "Tomorrow's Modern Boxes" tour (at the Greek Theater in Berkeley) in 2019. Genius, I tell you!
