Give me one more chance
And you'll be satisfied
Give me two more chances
You won't be denied

Well my heart is where it's always been
My head is somewhere in between
Give me one more chance
There will be a lover tonight

(Check it out)

You're the real thing
Yeah the real thing
You're the real thing
Even better than the real thing

Give me one last chance
And I'm gonna make you sing
Give me half a chance
To ride on the waves that you bring

You're honey child to a swarm of bees
Gonna blow right through you like a breeze
Give me one last chance
We'll slide down the surface of things

You're the real thing
Yeah the real thing
You're the real thing
Even better than the real thing

We're free to fly the crimson sky
The sun won't melt our wings tonight

Oh now
Here she comes

Take me higher
Take me higher
Can you take me higher?
Will you take me higher?

You're the real thing
Yeah the real thing
You're the real thing

Even better than the real thing
Even better than the real thing
Even better than the real thing.

Truth. I set up for them at Toronto Sky Dome (Rogers Centre now?) - it was WAY over politicalised 100% virtue signalling shite. Pretending to be "green" - they brought their gear over by boat (?!) as if a massive barge carrying a train of diesel powered tractor trailers, tour busses, massive cranes and a gigantic set - had no carbon footprint LOL. The amount of sheer Waste for that 2 day show was Obscene. Expected in this industry unfortunately, but when the artists claim they're saving the planet, it all just reeks of blatant hypocrisy.
WEF trash
Fabulous. I believe they are the longest running mega band. No replacements, same 4 guys.

Still refer to it as the new album after joshua tree... lol
Crazy- I brought this album with me to Swaziland.  91'-93'. Walkman with little speakers- rocked out best we could.  Whats up with the Peace Corp, Achtung Baby thing!  Music sure did help me keep it together!

I finished Peace Corp in the mid-80s in Nepal and came home to U2. I remember similarly... wow.

A gorgeous blond with the sexiest sweaters once gave me a mix tape with this track on it....mmm...miss those days...where are you now Julia?
Love every note of this album. It seems unusual for a band to make such a departure from previous material and still sound "at home" and just as  brilliant.

Here, B0n0 lashes out at the Sweden Democrats(SD) and others. Even though one might not agree with other people's political views, I think it's absolutely outrageous to compare SD with the nazi party in 1930's Germany. I don't agree with SD, but I know enough of european history to recognize exactly the behavior from B0n0 -which in itself very much resembles nazi propaganda.

This makes me sick and results in a rating of minus 10 on every bloody song they have on RP.

As Ruth Whitefeather Feldman would say: Focksticks!

Well, the SD party has it's roots in Swedish Fascism.  It has been described as right-wing, populist, national-conservative, anti-immigration, and far right.  Their slogan is "Keep Sweden Swedish".   (Third Reich 1930's Motto:  'Germany for Germans')

Doesn't seem so outrageous to me.  What seems more outrageous to me would be to consider a h8ful racist/fascist ideology just "other people's political views".

You don't want to get another Nazi Germany... because that's how you get another Nazi Germany.
Achtung Baby was, in my opinion, their greatest album!  I was on home leave after serving 2 years in the Peace Corps in Botswana when this came out--and it was like a fucking epiphany!

Yeah, Bono spouts such hypocritical bullshit.

Part of me wishes new bands will come along with great songs.  Part of me loves that established superstars just pile it on.  These guys were amazing back then, and they continue.  You just wonder what it is that clicks in a band.

I agree with that and yet I was a fan of U2 since Joshua tree .... 8 instead of 9 on this song. And to answer Bono: "All that is excessive is derisory."

The funny thing about the U2 bashers is that they'll slam a song like this and also slam "Running to Stand Still" and also slam "Bad," saying how boring  and monotonous the band is; as if the songs even sound remotely the same. They may be "past their prime" at this point but this was an epic, and bold, album and it doesn't have a weak track on it.

The first time I heard "The Fly" I didn't know what to make of it but it didn't take long to appreciate how the band (successfully) made an effort to reinvent themselves, and now it stands as just an all-time classic.

Agree on all counts, TJO!

(The video for this song was pretty great too...)
The first ressurection of a great band!
Great song

Annoying. If they don't have decent lyrics why not just shut up?
wayyyy over played.  hated it in the 90s and still today

Amazing song.  Perhaps my fave from this great album.  Great live.
One of the greatest albums ever.

I would have to agree. Has not aged a day!
What a great song to wake-up! According to Danny Lanois the new album seems to be a lot more inovative than the last two!

Still like U2 after all the years.

had a dream lastnight where my 4yr old was lounging wearing this ridiciulous pair of sunglasses, something out of Brazil (the movie), acting totally cool, telling me she liked Bono. Very funny to me.

The clever thing about the video was the fact that everyone who appeared in it was a U2 impersonator. Fits with the lyrics don't chya think? :-)
Amazing the way they reinvented themselves on this one. Not many bands can successfully pull that off. Hard to believe this came out 15 years ago.

Yeah, this album really got me back into U2 in a big way, after falling out with them through The Joshua Tree and Rattle & Ho-Hum.

If you saw them perform this song during their ZooTV tour, you'd be rating it a 10 too..
not the best song on this amazing album

That is the virtually same comment you made last week - if you must post about your dislike of U2 on every track at least try coming up with a different comment each time.
Which makes sense, as every single `song' of U2 is of the same low standards, or are you saying you hear a difference?
someone here has a permanent burr under their saddle...perhaps its rendered from their ill-earned, exhaustively inflated ego. or maybe its just a negative attitude from thinking they have the last call on the quality of everything under the spread of the universe. it seems to me that if a person doesn't like the majority of what they hear on a station, they'd listen to something else? just an idea. have a nice day.

one point about U2 worth making. this band is far better than they were in the early days. when i first saw them in 1980 they were way too serious, pious, pretentious. they emerged from a stagnant period in the nineties and have since been raging, creating their very best work. i cant recall any other band pulling off a feat like that.

This album was all over the grocery store--everything from flat pop (no pun not intended) to crunchy guitar. This song was somewhere in the middle, more filler than a song with a message, IMO.

Makes me wanna go to the soda machine and get a Coke...
Sounds pretty much simular to Get It On by T-Rex (speeded up, of course) especially in the verses.
