Into Iron Butterfly as a kid when they were a local act getting started in L A.  Senior year in HS saw them live at the Electric Factory in Philly, '69.  A full hour long version of Inna garage in toledo was played that night.  Medication that night was also most appropriate for the show.

Wow, to young. I saw them live at the Mill Run Playhouse in Glenview, Il when I was a teen.

Apart from being a studio musician wanted by any- and everyone for his iconic saxophone playing style back in the day, together in one row with the Brecker Brothers' trumpet and sax, the guy was an idol and avatar for jazz-funk saxophone players like her, he actually brought out quite some albums under his own name, hardly known by many.

Here's one of my personal highlights with him:

You need to call them. They are doing "decades" music this week.
The 80's today. And they're asking past contributors of the station to call in.
Of course, I'm calling in with requests.
Of course, they rarely have the ones I suggest.

That's fun, I should call but I hate the phone.

Aww, man.. 86, though. One of the prize pieces in my vinyl collection is a copy of Have Twangy Guitar, Will Travel. I guess that's getting a spin this evening.

Without a question the best concert I ever attended was the Moody Blues in March of 1972 in Chicago at the International Amphitheater.  Pinder was awesome.  All night long there were only five guys up on the stage, but sometimes there was a piano or other keyboard, and sometimes there was an entire orchestra up there, plus some other sounds that didn't really belong to any instruments I was aware of.  It was everything you wanted from a Moody Blues concert, and it rocked.

Listened to Every Good Boy Deserves Favor tonight in his honor.

I was at that concert as well and have seen them 5 more times since then. Last time I saw them was at the Desert Sky Pavilion near Phoenix about 30 years ago.
