I guess that depends on how you vote in 2016, which is your private business.

What people almost unanimously call "the best TV show ever made" is on sale today at Amazon for $90 for all five seasons. Free shipping.

I've been piecemealing the show, and am only up to the second (great) season. This'll make it a bit easier. Seems like a lot of money up front, but for $20/season, that's a lot less than buying movie tickets once a year for a family of four.

The second season is the best. Now, if I see actors of the Wire in other series of films I almost silently thank them for the fun the Wire gave me.

The best series I EVER saw, regret I have seen it already.

In Battlestar Galactica now, less impressed, but very entertaining nevertheless.

Other series that are quite good apparently and on my list:

Homicide
The Shield
La Piovra (Italian Mafia series that I saw in the wrong order unfortunately)

I saw another piece a few weeks ago about the real life son of 'Marlo Stanfield' (who was an amalgamation of two senior level drug dealers the ex-detective producer of the show had run up against in his days as a cop) had just been sentenced to 15years for drug trade activity.

I ran across this recently too:

I had no idea that the series wasn't an exaggeration.

WOW!!!! I just finished the last episode of the season 5. I't makes me sad that I will probably never see anything like this again ever on TV, there's no words to describe how fantastic this was. Dark, serious, real and sometimes darkly funny as well. Great actors, and it made you care for even the vilest drugs dealer sometimes. WOW!! Yes, sad too.

Maybe the war series David Simon made after this, and there's Battlestar Galactica that according to a magazine I read (Uncut, UK) is almost as good as the Wire.

And I can, and will, watch all the extra stuff now. I'll miss it!

Thank you!

You know the really wise, mellow and serene  actor who played the Deacon who worked with Cutty/Dennis in seasons 3, 4 and 5?

 He used to be a real life big time drug dealer, murderer and all around really bad guy  in Baltimore named Melvin Williams.

 But due to the fact that there are so many cops involved in consulting on the show that he's come across in the every day way of things he agreed to play  a part 180  degrees from his real life.

 And that's just one of the many ways this show went the extra mile/light year for to make things so perfect and genuine. Plenty of similar stories in the best show in the history of television.

 The best TV show ever, nothing comes close.

 I can honestly only think of 2 mistakes in the entire series and they were so minute as to be insignificant and only involved sound effects.

 Like the time Omar has Slim Charles dead to rights in the hallway out Charles  apartment.

 Omar racks a shell into the chamber of whatever abomination of the hand cannon he's carrying, but the sound  is to short  for a pistol. It's obviously  a shotgun round being chambered whose sound was edited in.

What an AMAZING series! Totally addictive, intelligent, tough and funny, multiple layers... and I'm only at the 2nd season! It is everything I love in tv and books (and I read David Simons' Homicide). Simply fantastic!

 Well, well. David Simon's next HBO series looks very RP'ish. The pilot wrapped earlier this month.    {#Jump}

Amazon had a special on the entire box  set a few months for under $90 but I missed it. {#Arghhh}
 edit- it was $81. 99 with free shipping on 1-22-09.

 I'm seriously looking at it as a major piece of art.I'd have to say that "The West Wing" and "The Sopranos" (seasons 1-5) were the best TV I've ever seen and they aren't even close to "The Wire"
 If you view it a second time, check out the commentaries.
