i saw her for free kinda recently in an audience filming a tv show.   she talked about her songs on her new release and sang some of them.   it was a great show, especially for free.  and got her double cd signed. i found her kinda snotty at the signing.    other than that I saw her with 10,000 maniacs opening for REM.    i really liked them, and i like her.

Opening for Squeeze by any chance?

Edit: Nevermind, I must have seen them in 87 with Squeeze.

Been listening to the single CD of the new stuff, in the car today in fact. Really like it, but now I'm going to have to do a lot more reading to understand a lot of the tracks, but then there'll be lots more cool stories to tell the sprogs, and Nancy will especially like that there are songs to listen to as well.

You were no doubt affected by the knowledge that Chris was next.

I don't really mind her. I have some of her music. It's not high on my list of things to listen to.

She's coming to a local venue in a couple of weeks. I'm not going to see her although some friends have expressed an interest. As far as female performers go, if Catie Curtis, or Jonatha Brooke, or Patty Griffin, or maybe Shawn Colvin were coming I'd give it some serious thought.

I like a couple of her songs, but for most part I'm pretty indifferent towards her.  meh.

She's always seemed sorta uncomfortable in her own skin. Awkwardly dancing. Singing like a child. I haven't seen her live but I've seen a few performances on the television.

There is one particular song she does that has a nice lounge singer/live sound that I like. A recent release I think. Not notable enough to remember the name however.

My experience of hearing/seeing  her for the first time:
Incredibly boring, same 6 note range, I wish she would relax/open the back of her throat - clearly would have a wonderful voice/sound if she did so. The closed nasal sound is grating after a very short while.
I wonder if she's had a vocal coach. did they/she choose that sound for some reason?
The musicians with her were wonderful! some lovely music. borrrrrring songs!
Weird kind of one level of energy, even on up tempo tunes.

I think it is admirable and positive that she puts herself out so completely as herself. And I wonder how she gets such huge national acclaim. Clearly musically talented, and yet, for me,   one rather odd performer- maybe that is what draws many to her.
