And I explained loud and clear to this nice person how very awful it was that these requirements were not explained in advance. I could have saved everyone (especially me) hours of time if I had known we had to be registered... I simply would not have tried, because we don't have the paperwork in place (tiny volunteer organization) to register. That guy was really nice, and now I understand, and that makes everything alright. I've always had good luck with PayPal and no problems

The closest thing was "non-profit/charity". So, I chose that. There were no requirements or caveats listed. So, then I get an email that my account is on hold while they await documentation of our non-profit status. Well, we're just a little town committee, not an official 501 or anything. The phone people say I have to email the Compliance people. The Compliance people never respond to my myriad emails. I've given them all this incredible specific detailed bank information. it's unbelievable all the paperwork they want for this account. I can't close the account, I can't provide the paperwork they're requesting, I can't use the account, they won't unlock the account... I just want to sell a few tickets! That doesn't sound like Pay Pal's fault. It's about collecting tax or not. Any time you are buying as a non-profit, you have to present a letter or #. However, they should have made this more clear on the page where you choose.

Same here. For a while my PayPal account outperformed my bank money market account. Now...not even worth it. They also seem to be changing their terms of service a lot lately, which makes me suspicious. I had PayPal before there was anything (besides eBay, I suppose) to use it for. I've used my PayPal account to pay for things in the past without incident. OTOH, one time when I bought something and entered my (not PayPal) credit card information, PayPal switched the transaction from a credit card charge to withdrawing money from my checking account to cover the expense. That was without my approval, or my knowledge until it was too late! Obviously I was spooked by having some vendor having my credit card info, but not using it as I requested. I don't like to give any business the ability to automatically take money out of my bank account. That's two strikes against the new PayPal right there. I think I'll read over all of those TOS documents very carefully before I try using PayPal again. It seems to me that finding a trustworthy financial institution these days is nearly impossible. Is it just me?

Much of my business is done via PayPal. People make their payments for my services exclusively through PayPal. Tehy have the option of using their credit card via PayPal as well, whether or not they are a member of PayPal. My question, if you are at all a utilizer of online services, is why would you NOT use PayPal? It is inexpensive to use the as a financial receipt service, only 3.9% for most transactions... far less that the 5% credit cards require. And as a buyer it costs you nothing extra whatsoever.

Works if you're dealing with a business that takes credit cards, but for people-to-people transactions not so much. I've never had any grief with PayPal. Jerks I bought stuff from who sent the wrong item then wanted it shipped back on my dime before they'd refund the purchase price but not the shipping, well that's another story.

not everyone excepts credit cards directly. especially small vendors and individuals the sell through ebay and such. less fees involved with paypal than CC.
