funny, i cannot connect the voice to the artist - checked out the link someone posted and it was still somewhat odd to view. like the lyrics enough to start with a 6 but still see a different singer in my head...will see if this changes with time

This is a great tune. A perfect RP choice.  Unique, unusual brilliance. 

I love this enough to stop whatever I'm doing, turn up the volume and immerse in it when it comes on, but doesn't make me download it and have it on my playlist (and I do download a lot of tracks due to RP's intros)
That's what I think is a good fit for Radio Paradise.

Check out Colter Wall (if you haven't already).  Listen first, then find a picture or video of the dude.  The incongruity between the man and the voice is so striking that it gives the impression that the voice must be an affect, but even repeated listening (without watching) doesn't rankle, so... does it matter?

He's not trying to sound like Janis Joplin; you're trying to classify who he sounds like and you've decided to shoehorn him into an imperfect Janis Joplin impersonation. Asaf has, to American ears, a unique singing style that is probably not out of place in more traditional music circles. His song Her Lies (see link below), right before the end, has a vocal section that is obviously powerful & skillful, but may be quite off-putting for those that are unused to that way of singing.

Asaf could probably put a hell of a twist on a Janis tune, but I think he would take the wise route and avoid imitation.

It's good stuff. One is caught between this being an affected voice or the real thing, but I guess if you can fake a voice that well it kind of morphs into the real thing.

His song Her Lies (music starts at 1:31) is very passionate. I get why people don't like his voice (the end of that song would probably be painful for those that don't), but I think it is powerful & full of emotion. That said, I would love to hear this by someone with a more traditional singing style, if only to have the naysayers appreciate his music a bit more.

There are a few artists for whom I just can't reconcile the voice with their true gender—Tracy Chapman always did that to me with 'Give Me One Reason' back when it first came out (in an opposite case scenario of course). {#Lol} Doesn't affect my enjoyment of the music. Just saying... I guess I will always hear a woman singing first when this plays.  Goosebumps when I hear this with the lyrics though.

I'm not a huge Janis fan, but I really like this for some reason.  The voice fits somehow, like the rough edge over the smooth melody adds a tonal quaility that rescues this song from being almost boring.  However, the music sounds like it is never really supposed to be the star of the song, but instead just support for the vocals.
