wife and I traveled Route 66 for our Honeymoon.......and we sure did see a lot of "sprouts" of "Generica......but if you are in a bind and need a cheap ottoman or fake Levis....you can rest assured Target will get you square .......but still RT66 was an amazing trip....drove in out Mustang and put a bumper sticker on the back window at each placed we stopped at....still got the woman!.......and the car!

Thought it was Mason Ruffner - had to check if had been in this band.
I remember these guys, always playing on the Quad back in my early 80s Tulane New Orleans days.
.......they weren't great

Not a bad song on this album
One of the few things I miss about Lousyana and NOLA in particular is the music.
Yes, food is the other. the typical gas station there has better food than most "real" sit-down restaurants in the rest of the USA
Holy cow -- listen to that organ tone. Wicked.
Seen em in Boulder and Chicago a few times… Great fun, always a boogie to be had.
Who y'all was down for the Tips shows last week?
zoopa - doopa beat
Ah yes, The Rads. Ask any Tulane grad and we'll tell ya.
Crankated here.

This is a really catchy rhythm, never heard of this group. Love the drumming. Thanks Bill! Curious about the group, followed the link from ScottFromWyoming and found this summary at https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Radiators_(American_band)

The Radiators, also known as The New Orleans Radiators, are a rock band from New Orleans, Louisiana, who combined the traditional musical styles of their native city with more mainstream rock and R&B influences to form a bouncy, funky variety of swamp-rock they called fish-head music. Described by OffBeat magazine as "New Orleans' longest-running and most successful rock band", The Radiators' had only limited commercial success, with only a handful of chart appearances, but, as a party band from a party town, their enthusiastic live performances, danceable beats and relentless touring earned the band a dedicated following and the admiration of many of their peers. In a feat of continuity rarely seen in the rock music world, the five-man line up in the year of their breakup (2011) is the same one as when the band formed in 1978.

The Radiators were getting some national press ca. 1987 and got themselves a major-label contract with Epic Records. Lots of good songs on that album, but some Genius at the label decided the first single released should be "Suck The Head." It's a fine song but duh. The album stalled before getting into the top 100 and that was that.

I did not know that! I always thought this band was really underrated. I have the album you mention on vinyl, but the only song I heard from it beforehand was "Like Dreamers Do", which I was madly in love with. Although I always thought "Suck The Head" was funny, having eaten my share of crawfish. (The heads are gross, though.)

Edited to add: I didn't mean to sound pretentious with the "on vinyl" comment up there - there's more to my story: Law of the Fish was the album that made me buy a CD player, as it took me months to find the LP, and I said "never again."
Now this is the kind of diversity I like to see on PR. From the posts looks like this play about once a year. Sure would like that kind of rotation to apply to a lot more songs...as in a lot less on many and a lot more on so many other. Give it a good stir Bill.

Spent many a wonderful night with these guys, so I'm thrilled to hear 'em on RP!

I bought my first bike there in the 80s.

Heard the Rads at Tip's, at the Jazz Festival, and at that boat that used the ply the river.  Kept waiting for them to make it big, but they couldn't generate radio friendly hits.

NOLA expats seem to be all over.

Very nice!

Da Radiators Dahlin'!
Echoes of Oingo Boingo's Dead Man's Party—but not as good.
I saw these guys a lot. Some of the shows were amazing (especially @ Tiptitinas) and all the rest were friggin' awesome. Not too many people know about them. A true "underground" band if that is possible for a band that played for 20+ years in all of the great venues.
Thanks RP.

These guys were the best! Glad to hear them on RP....

"Zigzaggin' Through Ghostland" - what a great title for a CD.  Maybe they'll call one of their CDs "Rollercoaster in a Hurricane."

How about Blowing Off Steam?

(sorry, lame radiator joke)

Nope - not lame. *hugs you*  From other comments, it looks like they're disbanding. I have this concept - since Pluto is now no longer a member of the official solar system, I think all disbanded bands should go there. Pluto, of course, never returns phone calls, never writes, couldn't care less about Earth - what better place for a gathering of artists? (I was gonna write, "egos" in place of the gathering thing, but some of the members still have lives and might want to continue to exist on Earth.)

I really miss Pluto.

The Rads are checking out, finishing up their last gigs evah! Catch them before they are gone for good.

Oh gosh...I used to have so much fun seeing the Radiators after the Dead shows. Miss those days.
New to me. Sounds pretty goot.

You can hear a vocal similarity sometimes.

Yes it is.  I listened to them a lot in the late 80s.  Used to play "This Wagon's Gonna Roll" in one of my bands.
Picked up a used CD recently with a cut entitled "Deep in the Voodoo."

Oh yeah!

How about "Confidential" on this same album?

Yeah, Bill did not come even close to picking the best song on the album, or even necessarily a representative one of the Rads for that matter.  Still, my ears perked up to full alert when I heard the opening riff.

{#Hearteyes}

How about "Confidential" on this same album?
