There's a bottomless pit that we've been climbing from
Just to get on level ground
Shake your seasick legs around
Everyone in a logo town
Signs of life are stark and flickering

I need a bed to lay my body down
Dead weight to carry me down
Some static is lulling me to sleep

Hang your clothes on a chain link fence
In a junkyard say amen
Your mouth is full of wordless hymns
And run-on sentences

And we're helpless and forgetting in the background holding nothing
And we're youthless and pretending in the bearhands holding nothing

There's a million horse dragging down a monolith
these trademarks so bereaved
Tied my leg to a barricade
with a plastic handgrenade
They tried to turn emotion into noise

I need a teleprompter for my life
Need a pipeline to the night
My body can't get no relief

And this life it goes by fast
To treading water in the past
While you try to reanimate something that you don't understand

And we're helpless and forgetting in the background don't saying nothing
And he's youthless and forgetting in the bare hymns tied to nothing

And he's helpless and forgetting in the background don't saying nothing
And he's youthless and pretending with his bare hands tied to nothing

Oh Lord, there goes Johnny Appleseed

Wait that's not the right song...
The initial bass drum skipped rhythm is very unique almost sounds off but just fits...  Beck - so talented.
The bass riff is exactly the chord riff from "Panic in detroit" by David Bowie.

Well, that and its history...L. Ron and Theodore Sturgeon were in a bar and L.
lamented that they both were making pennies per word writing for the "pulps".
L. said that the real money was in religion and wrote "Dianetics", the Bible for
Scientology...It took off and became a Ponzi scheme money maker for Hubbard
& Co. Once you were involved, the pitch was to take another course on your way
to becoming a "clear". Scientology only officially became a religion much later
to avoid the IRS who were breathing down the movement's neck...

Now play something by Shuffle Algorithm..
Not exactly my cup of Chai but gosh darn it, he had an amazing musical development through out the years, hats off to the brain brilliance and hard work!

Fine points! I stand corrected.  ;)

He has..nothing I can think of that is really "weird" on this. No novelty tunes like Loser anyway.

Loser is likely only a novelty tune to you.

Beck is some kind of visionary poet prophet er.. At the very least ... Translating something to us! I mean listen :) maybe prophet is a bit too much, heh but listen? Visionary poet?
Damn.......Beck continues to hit above average.
It's easy to forget how good this guy is. Maybe if he'd make a public appearance or two.
Another example of how much mood affects my enjoyment of music.  Apparently last time I heard this I hated it - gave it a 1. Tonight - love it! a 7!
Had to look to see who this was.  I find that Beck does that to me quite a bit.  Good stuff.  7 straight away
This is not even a song. Terrible.

Everybody in my church loves this song...
{#Music}  Turned up!!
Yep. I like this very much. Thank you Beck!
Beck good, me like Beck.{#Hungry}
Beck does MGMT
This is one of my (many) RP favorites — I included it on a mixed cd and followed it up with Yoav - Club Thing (which I used to hear on here but haven't heard in a long time, but it does make for a great segue if I do say so myself).
today is the third or fourth beck song i am hearing here. not that this is a bad thing.

True! This album felt like a collection of singles vs Guero or The Information which play better as a cohesive piece.

Great tune!
Awesome album!

Like a fine wine, Beck gets better with age!

Like
I didn't know Glen made music.  {#Rolleyes}

Released - 2008 - or were you referring to the "sound"?

This CD has been playing in my car for about a week. During the drive to work, planning my day, and during the drive home, planning my evening, about the only thing that comes through is "shake your seasick legs around." Cracks me up every time, and I walk through the door chanting it ike it's a mantra.

Panic in DEE-troit.....
Nice followup to Janice's "Move Over"
Bill, you're on a roll. Like a car with no brakes careening down a San Francisco street...Joplin to Beck. Hold on! {#Eek}

Reckless! But in a good way. {#Yes}

Sorry, I couldn't let "sucko, barfo, OLD" be the topmost comment. Quite a nice tune.

I really don't think you understand this guy. He doesn't spend a lot of time on the same road. Can't say I like everyting he has done, but (like RP) I like him all the more for it. If you like what he did at some point, it is out there. When you are ready for something else, he is way ahead of you.

Totally understand.  I am no spring chicken myself and have Beck on my shelf now.  And as I mentioned in another song post, my marketing guy, a retired US military intelligence officer who was in Berlin when the wall came down, now listens to Beck in his STS, and LOVES it.  Thanks to RP.

I agree.  Everything he does is "interesting" at a bare minimum.

What, as in rotating on its way out the window?

Ok we are headed into some good Friday music now.

Beck - Youthless
Rodrigo Y Gabriela - Diablo Rojo
Jerry Garcia & David Grisman - The Thrill is Gone

Loved Bill's comments about the phrase "Moden Guilt" and the current financial crisis.  It's too bad we can't send Mr. G to Washington to put some sense into those &%$& people. (hmm. Mr. G goes to Washington. Is there a movie title in there somewhere?)

This album is in constant rotation for me right now.

Gotta admit, Beck's growing on me. Especially this new album. I think I'll have to go out and buy it soon....
Mojito?
I still have yet to get tired of this album at all.
"Listless" might be a better title for this yawner.
The echo reminds me of "Fly Like an Eagle" from the Steve Miller Band. Listenable tune nontheless.
I'm hot and cold on Beck but I kinda like the groove of this.  I'll start with a 6.
Beck, Tom Cruise, and an E-Meter
Scientology Nirvana...
I really can't explain how much I love the pairing of Beck and Danger Mouse on this album. They compliment eachother perfectly.

love this album. i don't think he's gotten less weird at all - i mean come on, how f'd up was his last album the information?

Totally groovy. I'm tapping my toes and bobbing my head to this tune.
