I've come down with something
I'm frozen, tied up, cast in lead
It's simple, so says the captain
Face forward, move slow, forge ahead

I'm earning a reputation
My conscience, mistrust and regret
Courageous, just like the captain
Marching forward with no doubt in his head

And the album cover be nice.
this entire album is gold… every single song on the album is great
I found that my rating (from some time ago) for this song was 5.  Not sure why but I've upgraded this to 7 now.  This song always sparks my attention when it plays.  ...Maybe it should be an 8!
Saw them for the first time at an outdoor music festival n Winnetka, IL They are a really fun band and sound amazing. Seem like really cool, down to earth dudes as well.

I'd beat the banjos and pedal steel with a hefty lump hammer.

Depends on the audience.
What a great band, dear God Almighty! It rocks.

Nice pickin and as noted by others a nice cheery vibe. Reminds me a lot of Canada's Elliot Brood.

Something in this is just so uplifting. Any musicologists out there with a decent explanation? It's hard to find a comparison - Mr Blue Sky? The Whole of the Moon? But these two are so ultra-produced, and this track seems so much simpler. The Counting Crows song on now (I type slowly) is pleasant enough, but plodding, good for working to. Guster's Captain never fails to raise my head!

Some reading on the topic of 'what different keys invoke emotionally' - though the beat matters too....and I agree this one does have a nice uplifting sound to it....Long Live RP!!
Solid album start to finish.
This is really a nice song. Kind of like the Dead, early Poco.
Such an underrated band.  They are a treat to see live.
I miss Guster's bongos.

I did want to say I really like the sound of this tune, esp. the guitar....it's an 8 for me.  Long Live RP!!

Needs another few verses but headphones right upto 10!

Foot stomping fun, but some deeper meaning as well. This is a great, but relatively obscure album by a bunch of talented guys who are still touring their tales off trying to make it work. Highly recommended.
This tune always makes me happy
More non-Mumford banjo! {#Bananasplit}
Sure do like this tune.

Made me look!

"Then captains courageous, whom death could not daunt,
Did march to the siege of the city of Gaunt,
They mustered their soldiers by two and by three,
And the foremost in battle was Mary Ambree."

I love this band. Please, when you get a chance, go see one of their live shows.

Totally! (At first I thought this was my post because I wrote something quite similar re Robin Williams—could'a been mine!)

Guster is still good, but i do miss the bongos. Saw them at my college concert, Spring 2002.

This song really kicks butt! I remember giving it an 8 on first listen...well, it's a solid 9 now!

I picture a very limp and wrinkled butt. To me it sounds more like:

Sunday-afternoon in rural South-Carolina: Mom and Pap use the tractor and drive to the dance-floor. On the way home Pap says to Mom: "Didnt the boys kick our wrinkled asses again...?! But Mom is already asleep!

Mountainmen's favourite - farmers delight!

absolutely not for me!
Really like these guys.  Note to self to check them out further on MOG.

I'd love too, if they ever came to the area.  All we get here is crap like Kid Rock, Taylor Swift, The Nuge, and Slaughter.  It's like I move from the a$$hole of Ohio, to the nostril.  I'd say armpit, but I think that's Cleveland and I'm on the other side of the state.

Catchy groove of a song. Upbeat but wistful at the same time. I'll get the lyrics. I thought I had downloaded some Guster to my Pod. No. I'll have to change that. This is a good one.
Starts off kinda slow, but picks it up. A hard 6.
