You cannot go against nature
Because when you do
Go against nature it's part of nature too
Our little lives get complicated
It's a simple thing
Simple as a flower and the complicated thing
No new tale to tell
No new tale to tell
No new tale to tell
My world is your world
People want to hear their names
I'm not exception
Please call my name
Call my name
Call my name
(Yeah, Oooh)
No new tale to tell
No new tale to tell
No new tale to tell
When you're down
It's a long way up
When you're up
It's a long way down
It's all the same thing
No new tale to tell
No new tale to tell
No new tale to tell
Because when you do
Go against nature it's part of nature too

They're opening for Jane's Addiction - on tour now. Psyched to see both amazing bands this September in Chicago!
Bill… ahem, William…
I love that you play LOVE ‘n ROCKETS!

Saw them last year and they still have it! Great show!
Yeah, baby! That summer and fall, '87, there were lots of Flying Saucers (exquisite blotter doses with little blue spaceships stamped on them), and shrooms are of course one of the four main food groups here, and THIS FINE BAND had a nice little stretch of ear-time, and thanks, RP, for all the rich and tasty memories!
wow. this takes me back. love it! saw them live way back in the day. fun times.
Dear aspicer in Chicago. STFU
yep… love and rockets…
BTW - their study of Eastern philosophy informed this song - Taoism in particular.
I've been recently digging back into their catalog - there is so much fantastic music they created.

When did they hire Ian Anderson for the flute solo? And I disagree they don't suck..they are just "different", ok?

Great Tune!!
A simple song in many respects, but I remember being blown away by it back in high school when it came out. And 34 years later, I still think it is a great song.
And WOW, I always thought the flute solo was oddly similar to Ian Anderson,,,,,and if I ever bothered to look it up, I would have known why! Thanks Bill for pouting that fact out.

All very recursive and circular, and in the end just meaningless because by definition anything done in the natural world is by definition natural, including toxic waste dumps. It conflates two meanings of the word 'nature', one 'everyday' and one scientific. Not that you expect a philosophical treatise from song lyrics, but the banality and meaninglessness of the above grated right from the start, then the song kicked in and that was just as bad. An easy Ho-Hum from the Nottingham jury.

Word hash ≠ lyrics.
Have always liked this album, still listen to it, so glad to here this song.

PERFECTLY TRUE COMMENT (though more Warhols than Anderson)
though the album is from '87. Mister Taylor Taylor-Taylor was still a boy-scount back then!
a very under rated band for their time...too bad so many dismiss them instead of listening. Yeah, "No New Tail to Tell" is right ..
Think I like it...
Was that my connection or is there a booger on the record?
Jethro Warhols
Not my favourite L&R song, gets a 4 from me.

My dog thought the song was "No New Tails to Smell".
woohoo!
A cool tune b/c it expresses their Taoist philosophy that includes Yin and Yang. So while it may seem simple and obvious to some, consider it is speaking to the chaos you think is going on is really nothing new and to be anticipated - just as much as the blissful moments you love...it's all the same thing really! Hmmm.........?! ;-)
Is that Ian Anderson (Jethro Tull) on the flute!
I think you may be 'conflating' lyrics with philosophical discourse. Different thang, Freddy.

I love this tune. I woke up with it stuck in my head a while back and I was like, where the frick did that come from? I hadn't heard it in MONTHS. Brainbug notwithstanding, I love this tune.
Loved this tune! Honestly, had never heard a song of theirs other than "So Alive" that I can remember. This was a great one, though.
Their best album. Their clearest lyric. "You cannot go against Nature..." I love this one!

The source from which all Dandy Warhols songs are copied.
Good but I prefer their earlier stuff.
A mish mosh of riffs, shamelessly done, and its fun. I keep almost hearing Pictures of Matchstick Men in there, too.
Give it a 7, for now.

I'm a big L&R fan, but I put this one at the bottom of their pile. Always found it irritating.
Great song.
I like this song. I detect slight shades of Tull and Janes Addiction
Sounds slightly better than most 80's glam rock.

I usually like Tull very much and I like a lot of what Love and Rockets have done. But I would be very happy never to hear this piece again!

Classic! Shoulda been a much bigger hit. Jethro Tull influence unexpected back then.

i was never wild about this band, but this song is a 10 to me. Overall I must say the songwriting and production on this piece is magnificent.
I loved this song in high school...and it still makes me smile and sing along!
It's got strumming. I'll give it that.
A combination of Jethro Tull and Alice Cooper School's Out vibe.
But in the end, not good.

Damn, thought i heard Annie Lennox go Woohoho in the beginning.
Got to calibrate my head again x_x.
Wow. Haven't heard this in YEARS. Went to see them in concert during college, roughly 1989-1990. Okay concert, hardly in my top 20, but okay.

Pretension? I was thinking more along the lines of Bombastic.
Ignore the band, and read the books. You'll have a much better time.

haven't heard this song in a long time. thanks rp.
I think this song's title and repetitive chorus sum up Love and Rockets as a whole pretty well:
"No New Tale To Tell"
So when it comes to Love and Rockets, I think I'll take Peter Murphy anyday. It was easy to see who the creativity went after Bauhaus split up.
Love and Rockets. Great comic. Crappy band.
To be fair, David J did have a later acoustic solo lp that was OK, I guess.
I'm trying to be more positive, so I have some praise for this song: It is somewhat less tedious and repetitive than most football chants.
artistdirect says the flute player is someone named "Mel Thorpe." Apparently it is not Ian Andersen of Jethro Tull.
other various interweb rumors say that L&R was paying homage, tipping their hat, giving a nod, stealing... whatever u want to call it.
This rocks
Nice, let's get some Bahaus now ...

Some I upload not because they're my favorite songs ever, but just because Bill doesn't seem to have 'em and they seem to be his style. Again, some he takes and some no. So? So we know that like anything else in this world, RP is a product. It's manufactured to suit a purpose. That purpose is to hover somewhere near the definition of "eclectic intelligent rock." Sure, L&R fits that. So does a lot of music you'll never hear here. If every last song that I liked was in the playlist, and every song you like, and that guy over there, then we'd all complain because our favorite songs only get played like once a year. Somebody's gotta make choices, my friend, and as your compulsion to buy everything the Bauhaus kids ever put out demonstrates, Bill is better about making choices than you.
