This song was so overplayed in the 90's, I still haven't quite recovered from it. But if you can get past that, it's a good song. (For Zombie, though, the scarring is too deep)

Lovely voice, heartbreaking song... Wow, it feels very strange listening to this now... When it was hot, my ex- and I were starting up what seemed a fairytale life in Noto Hanto, and life seemed bright and full of happy, reasonable dreams... To be sure, I've had my kicks, and I ain't close to being done, I hope, but... Life is also a lot like a Kafka novel, a Beckett play, a Shakespearean tragedy, a Wes Anderson movie... It occurs to me that Life Imitates Sartre... (that's the title I came up with for a pivotal chapter in my novel, Buddha Said, that I was working on before things got even darker and kept me from finishing or getting it out there. I'm feeling almost up to working on it again...) And still I remain, amazed and unfazed, and still I must keep on dancing, on fire, of course, as It intends... But everything connected to that time was as ephemeral as cherry blossoms...and every place that was so sacred and vital to me for my 8 years in Noto has been almost completely destroyed by the unfathomable forces beneath our feet... ~Still I dream!

When I played Cranberries at the VHits radio station I was working at (after she passed away) I would announce the song and turn off the mic and gasp a deep and guttural gasp. I still do every time listening to her voice.

Likely the only late entertainer that does that to me.

I don't really dig the trifecta of overplayed Cranberries songs (Linger, Dreams, Zombie) as they were all heavily played into the ground 25 years ago, but this is arguably the better of the three.
 
I also remember in 1995 this song was being used for Ireland tourism commercials on US cable television, but at least that didn't last long.

Kind of need that terrific drumming when there's not much else going on
in the song.

Interesting juxtaposition of the 3 or 4 repeated and held
notes throughout the song against a muted London Calling/Mystery
Achievement drum beat.

Years ago, before the days of Gortex and CD/MP3 players - when wool and vinyl were king, our local little ski hill had speakers on the t-bar lift supports and blasted out yodeling music for all to enjoy.
