Trolling down a long canal
Onto savage shores and gilded floors
Of coliseums through the load-in door
Certain of this one thing
Certain of this one thing
Certain of this one thing
That super slow motion got the upper hand on me
On me
On me
Holy visions had ceased to come
My tongue was numb and I was feeling tired
Crying out in a wordless howl
Screeching off to the underground
Certain of this one thing (of this one thing)
Certain of this one thing (of this one thing)
Certain of this one thing (of this one thing)
That super slow motion got the upper hand on me
On me

On me
Sleepy rhythms were lulling us
Syrup sweet and poisonous
How I found my way back I'm not sure
Through the channels and little streets that curve

Sounds like Grant Lee Phillips to me! Always liked his vocals and lyrics weren't bad either. Good driving music
Why do I see my comment from 2 years ago six slots down? Are there not many people on here?

Not everyone has the urge to write a comment every time they hear a song, I guess… Only the songs that are either incredibly good or awfully bad tend to gather an endless stream of comments. This one, even though pretty good, is probably not remarkable enough.
This 20+ year old 6.9-rated track has, as of today, generated 150 comments. This track is neither great, nor crapola. It just is. I'd dare to counter than RP listeners love to express themselves; always. It has some bearing on the goodness or badness...however, my observation seems to indicate that the amount of comments is directly related to the amount of emotional connection that folks feel to a track.
The more I hear this tune, the more I like it!! Thank You RP!
Elieen radio paradise has made me swear off commercial music radio with it’s SSDD crap
Love the sound of the snare.
The engineering is well done. Drums are typical, yet in keeping with how things are done these days. Nice!

Sort of a Cowboy Junkies sound with that spooky harmonica
Michael Hutchence & INXS to me.

Also a lot of listeners on Roku, smart TVs etc.

Or maybe the Wildflowers? Just sayin. At least the drum kit.
(Hmmm... does the fact that I made a remark, make it remarkable?)

is that the way you're supposed to do it?

How many comments there are also has a lot to do with how often the song is played. I love Grant-Lee Buffalo & Grant-Lee Phillips but don't recall ever hearing this on RP before.
Worked for Johnny Cash, Jackson Browne, The Byrds, Eric Clapton, Ringo Starr, etc etc but it may have been their perkier, somewhat more "upbeat" tone singing about cocaine... Nothing wrong with drugs.
me too
i'm a big fan
I absolutely love this.

Nice mid-1990s sound... gems like this are why I tune into RP.
Again, no. I mean, if it reminds you of them, then, I guess it does.
I am perplexified.
It reminds me of Jack White

Your comments absolutely made me lol! Partially because i agree a million percent but mostly because your paternal correction of mystifying comparisons...😭
There are no similarities that I can detect musically or vocally. I'm not denying that this sounds like to Joe to you.

Funny how the mind works, you think of Ed Asner via the Grant Lee/Lou Grant connection and I think of Lee Grant.
It's a lattice o' coincidence:
"Repo Man" (1984):
Miller: A lot o' people don't realize what's really going on. They view life as a bunch o' unconnected incidents 'n things. They don't realize that there's this, like, lattice o' coincidence that lays on top o' everything. Give you an example; show you what I mean: suppose you're thinkin' about a plate o' shrimp. Suddenly someone'll say, like, plate, or shrimp, or plate o' shrimp out of the blue, no explanation. No point in lookin' for one, either. It's all part of a cosmic unconsciousness.
Otto: You eat a lot of acid, Miller, back in the hippie days?
Miller: I'll give you another instance: you know how everybody's into weirdness right now?...
What i said!
Yeah, just like those damn orgasms.
Burn. Awesome!
Makes me picture Lee's Buffalo for give grand!

Ditto. Like Beck, GLP's stuff is new/different sounding to me, yet is still clearly real rock 'n roll. TFTT RP.
I haven't seen Kristin perform, but I can vouch for Grant! Saw him at the Belly-Up in Solana Beach CA a couple years ago — he certainly gives it his all, he was soaking wet with sweat when I gave him a hug after the show! Such a nice guy — and his voice gives me shivers.
perfect song for how today is moving, before the long weekend, its in SUPERSLOMOTION
thanks to RP, of course
...they're from the nineties, actually - and grant-lee phillips has put out several albums over the past decade, too...

And I riff on Norton Buffalo and Donna the Buffalo.

Very nice
You say that like it's a Bad Thing.
Well, Bono being poked by a stick IS a good thing, the sound it makes isn't.
Buffalo's got some great wing places.....
Nice.

And don't forget U.S. Civil War Generals Grant and Lee. Don't know where they would have dined on buffalo, though......

And here in Oz thousands of years ago we had a DJ named Grant Lee
