Lie down with me, my dear
Lie down
Under stormy night, tell nobody

My brother, where do you intend to go tonight?
I heard that you missed your connecting flight
To the Blue Ridge Mountains, over near Tennessee

You're ever welcome with me anytime you like
Let's drive to the countryside, leave behind some green-eyed look-alikes
So no one gets worried, no
So no one gets worried, no

But, Sean, don't get careless
I'm sure it'll be fine
I love you, I love you
Oh, brother of mine

In the quivering forest
Where the shivering dog rests
Our good grandfather
Built a wooden nest

And the river got frozen
And the home got snowed in
And a yellow moon glowed bright
Till the morning light

Terrible, am I, child?
Even if you don't mind

In the quivering forest
Where the shivering dog rests
Our good grandfather
Built a wooden nest

And the river got frozen
And the home got snowed in
And a yellow moon glowed bright
Till the morning light

Terrible, am I, child?
Even if you don't mind
No

These guys are really good.
we need an autoharp for this song

its kind of like a zither...but different
Vocals sound a lot like Rick Davies of Supertramp. Really like the tune, added to Favorites.
My little cabin looks at Georgia's section of Blue Ridge Mountains.  Peaceful.

And thanks to the 21st Century (and a 5G router) I can enhance the view by listening to hi-def Radio Paradise!
One of the most beautiful songs of the past 20 years.  I have had the pleasure of seeing FF live, watching the band interacting gently but purposefully was intriguing.

And for RP to follow with Portishead - amazing!

I my case I consider this a plus even if it was unintentional. And even if it was intentional, there are many examples of songs using the rhythm of the rails in their construction.
This always sounds like Christmas music. Must be the hammered dulcimer.
Blissful music😎
Ah, yes, Fleet Foxes, the soundtrack of my Brooklyn Bubble
More hammered dulcimer!
Nederlandse Spreekwoorden (Dutch proverbs); how many can you pick out (I seem to remember that there are about 100 depicted in the painting.)

Not that I've known a lot of them, but the musicians that I know are trying to experiment all the time. The keys are whether audiences appreciate their efforts (performed live? probably. recordings to a wider audience? much less likely) and whether a record company can capitalize on it.
Seamless transition from Edvard Grieg's Morning Mood {#Cheesygrin}

you got to appreciate a hammered dulcimer when you hear one....even Joni Mitchell stays away from it!
New album and 2017 world tour supposedly in the works.
Mandolin Monday? What?, no wait, it's Wednesday
Two mandolin centric sounds in a row.

According to Wikipedia they're just off hiatus and working on new material.  Take that for what it's worth....

Thank you RP for intruducing this band and this particular song to me.
This always reminds me of Lara's Theme from Dr. Zhivago when they're riding through the snow.
yes to all the good comments - peace and love to all {#Wave}

I just can't help but love these guys. The lyrics are like tiny snippets from a larger story, and the music makes it feel more like a fable than anything. On top of that, they're very musically talented, and always play with interesting melodies and harmonies.
These guys and My Morning Jacket sound identical to me.

I agree-with "White Winter Hymnal" a close second.

It's likely these guys never even heard either of those songs, none of them were born when those albums came out and Renaissance never got a whole lot of airplay, especially in the the US and in lifetimes of the members of this band.  It's possible these guys have never heard any songs by Renaissance.
The chord progression is mostly an adorned I-IV (with some sixth and major sevenths thrown in) in a minor key - a sort of progression which existed before the 20th century.  However, Fleet Foxes do seem to favor that full, layered acoustic sound which Renaissance often did.
Anyhow, those are good songs that you mentioned

Still, I thought it was Boy & Bear.

I mistook them for Coldplay.

I read an article about them a couple of weeks ago. They are on hiatus right now - lead singer is finishing college degree. I think (this is from memory) he's writing songs still, and plans are for a new record but it may be a while before it gets out.

I guess five years of play here on RP will decide if Fleet Foxes are musically relevant. Seems like BillG doesn't want to forget them.

I use to listen to this album some time ago and appreciated to hear a song from time to time in RP. But this is becoming really boring after a few times ...
Sorry, sure I am repeating myself, but the harmonies always seem on the sharp side to me. It's a bit like fingernails on a blackboard to me.
See you all in a few minutes....
simply amazing band! only recently discovered but i cant stop listening.
my favorite song is "Grow Ocean" pure magic!!!!!

Well the followup was Helplesness Blues which is actually pretty well represented here, if you are a regular listener you have probably heard something from that album already. I actually like that album better than this one.  However, this was a couple of years ago and now they have dropped off the planet.  From what I heard it is a combination of too many of these type of bands saturating the market and the lead singer is like totally full of himself and turns people off. Meh, whatever. I think they are OK, but if they don't generate enough interest to maintain a living through music no one said that was a right to be able to do that anyway, it is a priviledge.
the "Graffitti6" version is of this song is awesome{#Sunny}

Yes, a shameless rip-off.  However, The Blue Ridge Mountains can be a very inspirational locale.

Reading through some of the comments, I have to say that I side with those who say this is excellent.  It is not main stream and it stands apart from most of the drivel you find in most of the pop-bands.  I like!
This song and this band are just limp.
This was the best track off the album for my money.

Compare the vocal harmonies of Fleet Foxes to Simon & Garfunkel or even The Beach Boys. There's no contest, Fleet Fixes trumps them all. You just don't like them because they are popular.
That and you probably wouldn't know real music if it walked up and laid its balls across your eyes.

I've never heard this song or band before...and loved it.  Maybe some things are just over-analyzed sometimes, or something...I don't get it.  Maybe I'm just not real fond of overly mean-spirited judgements on art that many folks enjoy.  If you don't like it, fine...but just move on!

Fleet Foxes creates some wonderful music. And is perfect for Radio Paradise. Mixed in with other awesome songs.  But it is virtually impossible to listen to a Fleet Foxes album all the way through. Can't really explain it.

Me too! If you look at the comments you'll see that there are only a few misguided souls with a hate on for the band. Most of the RP rating audience likes the band.

I am completely obsessed with this Fleet Foxes song. For some reason, which I cannot explain, it makes me cry.  {#Think}

I liked this the first two dozen times I heard it on here, but no more. Not many tunes get overplayed on RP, but this is one of them.

I'm tired of hearing this... I'm tired of hearing this... I'm tired of hearing this...
So far...this is the second tune from this album that I like. Purchase looms in my immediate future.

I do find their sound rather derivative of other groups - CSNY and My Morning Jacket especially - but this is breathtakingly beautiful, I may nevertheless wind up buying this album.
Looking forward to their new album.  This song is wonderful, makes me want to get into the Mountains, I think will.
