Shining like a work of art
Hanging on a wall of stars
Are you what I think you are?

You're my satellite
You're riding with me tonight
Passenger side, lighting the sky
Always the first star that I find
You're my satellite

Elevator to the moon
Whistling our favorite tune
Trying to get a closer view

You're my satellite
You're riding with me tonight
Passenger side, lighting the sky
Always the first star that I find
You're my satellite

Maybe you will always be
Just a little out of reach

You're my satellite

Passenger side, lighting the sky
Always the first star that I find
You're my satellite

No one sounds like Michael Stipe.
Good band for sure. But this album is exceptional, a masterpiece of their catalog.  I don't think they ever recaptured the talent in subsequent albums, but they are still a good band.
This one always reaches out and grabs my attention whenever RP plays it. Such a lovely song on so many levels.

If I could wrap all of my daydreams and happy thoughts into one song, this would be it.
I appreciate that album art.
well written, well arranged, well played, well produced: respect and admiration
This is a very slick album...Definitely in the top 1,000 of all time.
10 years and many listens later, this still sounds fresh. What kind of preservatives did they use anyway?
Sometimes I have the time and the mindset to really appreciate how fine the music in this song is... So layered, so complex, so lovely...

Man, you are so right about that. They have some timeless classics for me. . .and a lot of utter junk. On reflection however, maybe that's better than having a lot of middle of the road, ho-hum songs that aren't terrible but don't really do anything for me. . .

Worth noting that REM, one of my absolute favorite bands, has a lot of utter junk too. So maybe that's just a sign of greatness :-)

Maybe shows how hard/lucky it is to create great songs when even the top artists can't do it all the time. Also, makes one appreciate the Paul McCartneys, John Lennons, Cat Stevenses, Tori Amoses, (Porcupine Tree) Steve Wilsons, et al. of the songwriting world, presuming one thinks these great and considering even they had some stinkers. BTW, I like this one.

Good timing!  Going to see Guster tonight in Ithaca.  Looking forward to the harmonies and Mr. Drumming Hands.
Oh là là ! Gangin up on da sun ? Water  and cloudburst is forecasted.
Buster, I can muster a lot of bluster for Guster before I ride off in my rusty, lacklustre Duster like Custer.
Perfect run on this one
Ha! I get it Bill! Nice pairing with Talk Talk :-)
Guster is real hit and miss for me... but this song, I love, love, love.
Always loved this!  I recall turning my buddy onto it during a stop in Boulder after a trip I'd done around Alaska with this in the player...
Thought this was Mr Marr so had to take a look....
Nice and I like the album cover too.

Yep.
RP Classic!  Heard it here first and takes me back to a few years ago when I first discovered this station!  {#Dance} and I can't believe I have not posted a comment for this song before now...love it!
this is RP goodness
I love the chorus in this song - the lyrics and the layers of guitars followed by the keyboard interlude.

It's perfect.

Repetitive and a bit skip-a-long.
Guster rocks!!
You're my wonderwall
{#Guitarist}
Great album start to finish.

Has anybody seen Guster on their current acoustic tour?  I saw them in Seattle on Monday and they were fabulous as always.  I think they were actually better than the 2 previous times I've seen them.  Much more interactive with the audience and the cello and violin they had with them were terrific.

Yep. Saw them a couple of weeks ago at the Lincoln Theater in DC. Amazingly accessible—in some respects more so than their usual presentation. I think the "living room" setting relaxed them, letting some spontaneity and flexibility into what is usually a fairly set show. "Satellite" provoked the most engaging sing-along of the evening. Someone twittered a request for "Here Comes the Sun," which, despite protests they'd never played before, they pulled of with only a couple of hitches. Huge applause at the try.

They built their fan base through relentless touring; they know it; and they return the support with affection.

Catchy.

The graphic is a bit of proto-mystic wank. The music outweighs it.

Merely an observation - a solid tune for sure.

This is just one of many Guster songs from this album that I've heard on RP and signed in to rate favorably. I see a music purchase in my future!

Comes with being truly eclectic.

Always liked this....makes me tap my feet, thereby annoying people around me.  ;-)
Made a disc of about 25 of my favorite songs for a new boyfriend....this was the only one he liked.

The song is still a fave, but he's not.

NOT. Simply an additional demographic that this song appeals to...not the only.

Yes - not the highs of some of their earliest albums, but actually I think the sonically tightest album (if you can follow the comparison and are a Decemberists fan, this is like their "Crane Wife", missing the singalong gems but really well-knit and solid).
Have always liked Guster.  Saw them at a Bay Area music festival over ~10 years ago when they were on a side stage.{#Smile}
These guys are good..........
Catchy, and sweet.  It just may be today's earworm-
Reminds me of 'Death Cab for Cutie' only with energy...but not much...this is greatly...ok.
I like that "Ghost and Mr. Chicken" organ sound.
Nice song, nice cover {#Angel}
This is pretty good, but not as good as the other songs I have heard so far off of this album. Still worthy of a 6———>7 range.

Dear Snowcat,

What skyguy means is that the Beatles did a song called 'I am the Walrus.' Thus, the Paul referred to is McCartney.

And I don't see what is wrong with not knowing this bit of information if one is younger than those of us who grew up with the Beatles.

Probably not too much of a stretch to suggest that it's something—or someone—unattainable, just out of reach. Neat song.

means we're revolving around we ?

Nice transition.

This was the first Guster song I ever heard that I actually liked.  I was so excited to tell a buddy of mine who has been trying to cram them down my throat for freakin' years.

It was funny, he said the album didn't get much airplay.  Shock.

It's weird...  I've always hated Guster with a passion, but I didn't realize that this was them for a long time.  It's the first Guster song I like.  Is it a big deviation from their typical music?  This is pretty catchy!

I can't tell if that was an absolutely fantastic transition from "Under the Milky Way" — or if it goes a little too far into revealing the roots for this song?

Edit: I see this has already been discussed further down in the comments :)

I don't want to... but I like it anyway

good music
4-->3 Such a boring, repetitive song. Overplayed too.
i'm suprised that i like this. what's the word on guster? should i look into em?
I really, really like this one from Guster. Especially after having seen it in the Cusack film Martian Child.
Nice to show off "Under the Milky Way" and "Satellite" together. Clearly Guster was influenced by the Church, but Satellite is hardly a carbon copy of UTMW.

Well, yes. I liked it before it was played on top-40 radio about 2,904,984 times. If I search for "Satellite" in my iTunes library, I get more than a handful of tunes. Peculiar. What the hell is it about the metaphor of a satellite? Someone enlighten me.

Surprised to hear this on RP. It's more suited for standard, unimaginative FM rock stations. A come down from PT.
I'm not entirely sure . . . I hesitate to suggest this . . . but is it possible that the sentiment is "You're my satellite"? It only gets repeated 90,000 times. Are we on a paucity-of-meaningful-lyrics and superrepetition kick today? Makes my officemates think I have no brain. Maybe they are right.

After careful consideration I've decided that this is not funny.
I vaguely remember Guster (then Gus) when I was at Tufts in the early-'90s, but I didn't pay all that much attention to them. But this album is awesome, especially "Ruby Falls" and "Dear Valentine". Great stuff, and by far the best they've ever done.

Hey this is a cool song. I spaced off back at Lyle Lovetts singing about bears half hour ago. Brought back to the RP fold by Guster.
